I'll stick up for the 2 litre boys and and add to kierans list with the fact that pre99 2.0 16v had 134bhp - only reduced to 131 to comply with euro emissions 2 which put power down - but raised Co2 and car tax ?????????????/pan

Normaly a square number plate on the back is a giveaway,

your car should be putting out 161 bhp (manufacturer figure) although if it still sound like it does in this thread

http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15142&highlight=tappets

then pick a number between 0 and 161 .......... my old gls had the classic example of tappet noise and i am afraid to say that that ain't it.....

i agree the Meister blue color of the car was the first thing that made me stop and go "ohhhh"

then the ohhhh's just kept on coming when i heard that it had cruise control, auto climate control, abs, air bags and my fave a bloody quick v6.

i so cant tell anyone how much i love this car.

when i picked it up from leeds my brother drove it back to bracknell.. and all i could see in my rear view mirror was this mean looking galant hunting me down like a wolf after its prey.

i know whats it like to have a galant up your ass. the only other car i have seen that looks menacing at the front is the bmw 5 series touring.

.

Must admit that is the ONE thing I will never tire of with galant's - the way people get out of your way on motorways / dual carrigeways - even more so with the facelift bumper filling the car in fronts mirrors

I consider myself fairly lucky too, I'm 21 now and have been driving since I was 15, but the VR-4 is only my 3rd car, I had a Mazda Familia first, then I got my Facelift 1.8 Legnum, and now the VR-4

think your doing better than me im 30 lol. my first car was an audi coupe 2.3l 10v. that was a fast car off the mark but not all that fast once the down blast kicked in.

it also had some issue's but it just kept going and refused to give up

yep. the insurance company loves me. lol....... they wanted £750 a year but then they said that if i got there road side assist it would bring it down to £650. and the assist would cost £50 so in total i pay £700 a year for insurance.

is it true that your insurance comes right down after you get 2 years no claims??

Depends where you live... quotes I'm getting for my 4th year insurance (with 3yr ncb, 24 years old, cat D postcode) are about the same as last year's.

Year 1:
Insurance: £917
Age: 21
NCB: 0
Excess: £650
Postcode: Cat A
Kept: Driveway

Year 2:
Insurance: £1480
Age: 22
IAM Cert
NCB: 1
Excess: £450
Postcode: Cat F
Kept: Driveway

Year 3:
Insurance: £680
Age: 23
IAM Cert
NCB: 2
Excess: £450
Postcode: Cat D
Kept: Street

I'd like to get it down to below £500 this year, but that's not looking like happening.

1480? **** thats high. Is Cat F about the worst you can be?

I-S
24-04-2006, 10:49 AM
Category F is the worst rated category there is. Anywhere worse is listed as "refer" as in they'll quote case-by-case.

How that affects insurance premiums depends on the car's security... For my second year's insurance, a new-shape legacy would have cost £800 or so because it has much better security than the galant. However, changing postcode to a cat A only dropped the legacy to £700 or so, which was about the same as the galant would be.

You pay far more than that mate if she know how much you've saved. I bet you'll still be hearing about this many years down the line!
