Right, following on from this (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11194) thread, I'm desperate for these so I've decided to have a go at negociating with SFS (http://www.sfsperformance.co.uk/), they are still prepared to do some hoses for the VR-4 So here we start again, I managed to get them to agree to making them for a minimum of 10 sets which will probably cost £140-£150 each but if we can get it up to 20 sets I'm sure I might be able to barter lower than that.
They said they can't say for definate on price until they have a set of hoses to measure the bore diameters etc, so we'll need a set of hoses to post to them or if someone lives locally take their car down. Before we send off any hoses he said to give them a call as they are moving soon, they are currently on Kingsway Industrial estate, Kingsway, Luton. Tel:01582 488040 I spoke to Lee. Sorry to tread on any toes, just thought I would get the ball rolling, Nutter_John, I know you said about speaking to them, at any point if you wanna take over I don't mind.

The colour options are: Blue-Red-Black-Purple-Green-Yellow and now they do Orange too!

PRICE IS £170.50 WHICH INCLUDES MURRAY CONSTANT TENSION CLAMPS

Show of hands if you are interest and what colour you'd want.

Me - blue. Can you specify exactly which hoses we'd be getting - I'd like to include the bits that attatch to the intercooler as well...

jayjay99
25-04-2006, 11:17 AM
I'm not sure to be honest, I said to them it was the turbo air intake hoses, 5 altogether. It's a case of sending them all the hoses we want doing. We can include the intercoller ones as well, but we wont know how much exactly it will cost until they have a set. My vr4 is my only transport so I can't help in that department. Is anyone stripping down an engine at present? I'll ask to two that are breaking the Legnums.

Right, I've spoken to Dave, aka Legnum breaking and he still has the hoses, we just need to decide on which ones we need, can someone pm him possibly with a list of the hoses, with as much info as possible to make sure we have the right ones. I said I don't mind buying them off him. If someone does if they can just let us know the outcome.

bernmc
25-04-2006, 12:47 PM
Yes, should be five if we're sticking to air hoses - two to intercooler itself (underneath the car), then elbow at back of engine (driver's side), and two big hoses near the front of the engine (2,4 & 5 in the pic).

We just need to bear in mind the cusco hard pipe kit (http://www.funkystyling.co.uk/item_detail.php?prodID=444001329) that funky can supply for the VR4 - this has all the jubilee clips and stuff included, and it's hard pipes rather than silcone. £220 + post. (no intercooler pipes though)

You'd be surprised at how much decent jubilee clips cost...!

If the new kit is any more expensive than the £140-150 quoted here, I'd probably go for the cusco kit.

jayjay99
25-04-2006, 01:08 PM
ok, cheers bern, I'll pass that on to dave.

What about hoses to the cooler (not the intercooler)?

I'm interested if more hoses than the cusco kit can be made or if the price is lower than £150

I think I would go with blue..

Kalle, the hoses will be the ones as set out by bernmc, 5 in total. I'm pretty deffinate that the price will be lower than £150 but again I'll have an absolute price before we go ahead.

jayjay99
26-04-2006, 01:32 PM
Note to all: The price I'm quoting is purely for the hoses, I don't know how much postage will be, I'll see if they'll post them out directly after manufacture, if not I'll distribute them by post but this will be an additional cost but only a couple of quid or something.

Rally205

Get the two that go to the intercooler aswell otherwise there is no point in having any of them.

Cheers bernmc . Right, progress so far, I've bought a set of hoses off LegnumBreaking and he's posting them directly off to SFS as we speak so they can measure them up. I've also sent the pictures from this thread to SFS to show the pipes and where they mount in the engine bay for logos etc and to make sure we get the right ones. To doubly make sure I might even go to Luton before they start to double check them and take some pictures to ensure the correct hoses and let SFS look at my engine. If anyone with a bit more experience in pipes etc wants to meet me down there it would most appreciated.

As Bern mentioned earlier in this thread, have you also considered the additional cost of decent jubilee clips - they could set you back an addtional £30 - £40 on top of the price for the hoses.

Well just so everyone knows, I'm pricing for hoses, so as Spirit says, take into consideration the jubilee clips. Spirit, not knowing much about this myself, could we not just use the clips that are on there? Also where do you find decent jubilee clips? I had a look on ebay and they all just say 'jubilee clips' and what a couple of quid for them.

Spirit
26-04-2006, 10:14 PM
SFS can price up the correct size clips for you - but I was advised to change them all when I did my SFS connectors, personal choice I guess, but one of my uprated clips even came loose recently and I was losing boost.

I wish you the best of luck, but think ultimately the overall cost will result in making the Cusco kit a good proposition.

jayjay99
26-04-2006, 10:33 PM
Ok, once I get an estimate I'll get them to price up the jubilee clips too, and then that is an alternative option for people to consider. I have considered the Cusco kit quite a bit but I'd also like the intercooler pipes and also the coloured pipework is a plus for me :)

Might be worth mentioning the price & availability of the cusco kit to them, Jayjay - might make them stay competitive.

I would also suggest that you get the pipe from the maf to the turbos replaced, that pipe is easily 5 times as restrictive as the stock pipe, especially going to the front turbo, it is a mess of tight bends, the cross section constantly changes shape and size, it's just a disaster!

Axeboy
27-04-2006, 01:06 PM
Ive looked at that pipe already and sure its not a simple case of changing the pipe... might be wrong tho'

Im sure it has a few 6mm T-piece's cut into it....

jayjay99
27-04-2006, 04:14 PM
Well the pipes are already sent off, might cause too much hassel to add to it. Plus a pipe like that may increase the total cost a fair bit.

bernmc
27-04-2006, 06:20 PM
Jayjay - another thought. Might be nice to price individual pipes or sets - so if someone got the cusco stuff, they could get the intercooler pipes from SFS...

I have spoken to DME motorsport on the Leyland Estate, Wellingborough. They can make up a silicon hose set for us. The boss, Nick will take on the tooling costs but he needs a set of hoses to borrow.

I need mine so I was wondering if there is anybody else that can lend me a set. I think it would be worthwhile getting a second quote so that we can compare the two.

DME motorsport are part of the D1 drift team. They specialise in modding Jap cars and will do just about anything you can think of.

jayjay99
30-04-2006, 10:04 PM
That's great, I bought mine from LegnumBreaking as I'm in the same boat and need mine, hopefully someone can lend you a set that doesn't need them. Or if someone lives near DME motorsport they can pop down in their car.

Any further forward with the hoses?

Any idea about the diameter of these hoses, assuming they will be larger than the originals?

Looking at the cusco hard pipe kit and tbh it looks very similar in diameter to the originals. http://www.funkystyling.co.uk/item_detail.php?prodID=444001329

Dont know what the ideal size is but was thinking a bit bigger is better:scholar:

This article gives some sizes, maybe too big and put the turbos under too much strain??

Anyone have any thoughts on this

They won't be bigger, they just won't swell as much as the standard ones, meaning more pressure which is better. The Cusco hard pipe kit looks lovely, but it's only 3 pipes, not 5 and it's alot of wonga.

10-05-2006, 03:21 PM
Right, an update, I've just phoned them and their pricing it up as we speak, I've gotta phone back in 20 minutes, after a good quarter of an hour bartering he initially said an estimate of £140-£150 for the hoses but as Spirit was saying that the clamps are about £20-£30 a set so I asked him what the best clamps are and he was raving on about the Murray constant tension clamps, they're meant to be the dogs b0ll0x, I was saying that these clamps on top of the cost of the hoses may push most of the people over to the cusco hard pipes, so he said he's gonna go away and do a one time only price up and give us as good a deal as possible.

jayjay99
10-05-2006, 03:25 PM
If we do get them from here is someone willing to come down and check the first set of pipes over with me, either fit them on their car or my car, just to make sure before they run off 20 sets, as I bought these pipes off LegnumBreaking and he posted them straight to SFS for me. Just wanna make sure.

WildCards

Who knows, but sounds good doesn't it! :) I'll give him a call now.

jayjay99
10-05-2006, 04:25 PM
Right, I've spoken to him and he said, "The best we can do and that's the absolute best is £145" I thought fantastic, but that was excluding VAT! Why do people quote without VAT, pi$$es me off! So total they want comes to just over £170. That does include the Murray constant tension clamps though.

Verdicts/Opinions please?

I myself am a bit dis-heartened, I'd probably still pay that but I don't think we'll be able to get that many people together on that price.

conaboy
10-05-2006, 04:41 PM

It's £170.50, I'll send pm's or emails to everyone on the list, if everyone is ok with that and has confirmed they are ok with the price then we can go ahead, well we might need a couple more too to make up the numbers.

That would be handy, Anyone?
I've spoken to him again, he said ideally we'd need to get 15 people together, if we get that many confirmed then we will need at least a 20% deposit but I think it would be best if everyone that can paid in full otherwise once they're made we don't want issues with people not being able to pay them. Kalle I suppose that will be fine if you waited until the end of June. The price does not include P&P, I think the way I'll do it is arrange payment and postage through SFS, that way everyone will get their own invoice etc. So they can pay them £170.50 and whatever it is for postage. once they have the deposit then they can start manufacture of the tools, this takes 3-4 weeks to complete, after that they'll produce one set as a trial, this is to fit a car to make sure everything looks and fits ok, also this will give the chance for any one to see what they look like and maybe jump in and join the group buy, once that's confirmed then production of the rest of the sets can go ahead. I asked if 8 weeks in total is a good estimate of the timescale and he said if we allowed 8 weeks that would more than cover for it and they'd all be done by then.

Hi all, I'm pm'ing you in regards to the Silicon group buy here (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15768), we're in the final stages of this group buy and providing we can get at least 15 sets together we'll all have lovely coloured silicon hoses. Please reply to this pm or e-mail me at kench06@gmail.com and let me know if you still want these hoses or not, if so put your name, address and e-mail address, I will pass these details on to SFS performance and they will contact each of you individually with an invoice for your set(s).

The price is £170.50, this includes the 3 turbo hoses, two intercooler hoses all in a colour of your choice and ten Murray constant tension clamps to secure the hoses, bear in mind these clamps normally cost in the region of £30 a set. Postage will be about £7 for next day courier. All prices will be laid out in the invoice.

Hopefully we'll all have nice silicon hoses soon enough and our VR-4's will be thanking us for them :)

Yeah, at the most so I'm told, I'm gonna give them a break until next week, they're moving premises this week and I've phoned them about 10 times in the last two days, probably getting fed up with me phoning every 5 min! /haz

Right, following on from this thread, I'm desperate for these so I've decided to have a go at negociating with SFS, they are still prepared to do some hoses for the VR-4 So here we start again, I managed to get them to agree to making them for a minimum of 10 sets which will probably cost £140-£150 each but if we can get it up to 20 sets I'm sure I might be able to barter lower than that.

I'm not sure whether you've missed the boat or not though Mr Voodoo. These where sent off a couple of weeks ago, you might be able to get an order in though.

I spoke to them last week, as I was getting fed up with waiting but they were saying how hectic it had been moving buildings. I'm gonna phone them now

Dunno, Jay?

One step at a time  I'll probably get the standard vacumm ones etc but I don't know about getting another set of silicon hoses made up.
I've phoned them but there's a message service saying that their phone system is down during the change over. I left a message and hopefully they'll get back to me.

Ive just been to a company down the road from me, they use to deal alot with SFS and Samco, both became to busy and too expsive so they now make thier own, with very quick turn arrounds. Ive just bought some from them and it is as good as the others and cheaper. If you want me to look into it.

it looks like they have sent an e-mail to everyone

Sorry for the delay in responding

We have recently moved to our new production facility and have been
without phone or fax lines for approximately 2 weeks....this has caused
one or two problems!!

The sample hoses provided by Jason have been sent to our toolmaker, all
being well we should receive the tools in approx 14-21 days.

We will then produce a sample kit for fitment, once approved we will
then produce your individual orders.

Once the phone lines are up and running I will give you a call and take
deposits etc from you. Would you all please email me a contact number.

Right, quick update guys, I just gave them a call as it's been a while and I haven't heard much, they sent the pipes off to their tool manufacturer a couple of weeks ago and are expecting the tools back in the next week or so, when they get them, they'll get in touch with each of us to let us know and will probably take the deposit then.

I'm fully with you, to be honest the way that they've messed everyone around I don't think they should get our business! I was ringing them every week and they kept saying the tools are being manufactured, it wont be long. I'm really sorry about all this, I tried my hardest to get this group buy off the ground and they let me down!!! /Grrr
