ask the seller to see if he/she knows (but then again they will say they fit just go get rid)

Ask what model year Galant they are for, or which version i.e. 7G, 8G.

Don't give a multiple choice, ask the question in such a way so they respond with the answer you want.

The engine code is 6A13.

Just to clear up a point Steve made.... On UK-Spec models, the range recieved TWO facelifts.

The first was in 1999, and is the one you have. This is the biggest jump, emissions, gearbox and trim were all upgraded.

The second in 2001, and basically upgraded spec to Sport-style bumpers, folding mirrors and a few other bits - like different seat fabric.

I know its Illegal to fit a jap style number plate to a non import car but if i was going to what size would fit the standard recess. Doing a search it seems 13" x 7" fits the vr4 would that be right on the v6?. anyone fitted a jap plate to a standard v6.

Nick Mann

Yep - 13" wide. Height can be almost anything you want.

You got the right size, as regard to legality something I read on DVLA website mentions character size, charcter spacing and distance fron the charcters to the edge of the plate and it being bs certified - all of which can be accomodated in a rectangular plate

Not a Jap plate, but I run with a 'bike plate (12x3"). Not been stopped yet and if I am I'll see if I can get away with pretending it's an import and that the plate was on when I bought the car. Improves the aerodynamics no doubt and certainly stops my darling wife breaking the full size one.

Has anyone got an older 8g in the club? My chassis number is 132 (and the rust is appearing)

As for the door trims £70! blimey, wont be having them then.

Another quick question (might as well keep them all to one thread).

In my service shedule it says about replacing transmission/diff/transfer box oil . Now I have a manual 2.5 v6 so the only one ive got to worry about is the manual transmission oil. is that right?.

If so it says to change every 90,000 miles. Is it worth doing it sooner?. Would I find any benefit or would i just be chucking money away. I think i read it takes a hell of a lot of oil to fill it?.

any thoughts.

Yes that's right.

That isn't right. I've just looked at a copy of my UK-Spec service schedule. Manual gearbox oil is checked every 18,000 miles and changed every 36,000.

Thats weird. according to the schedule I was given the other day.....

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b213/yeovilsteve/mitsserv.jpg

manual transmission oil is checked every 18,000

rear diff oil is replaced every 36,000

front and rear diff oil is replaced every 54,000

but manual transmission oil is changed at 90.000

I dont have any diffs, do I?

Kieran

Oh, that's interesting, you see, I have that sheet too, but my sheet is for 1999-2001.... Looks like they've revised it!

Having said that, 90K still seems an awful long time to go without changing the gearbox oil at least once.... Your call I guess....:inquisiti

Kieran
13-05-2006, 04:57 PM
IN fact, having had a closer look at that sheet, there's actually *no* specified interval for changing the gearbox oil!:speechles The one mentioned at 90,000 miles is for the F5MR1 transmission, not the F5M42 in the Galant.....

:speechles

Thats what I thought. very strange . I will have to ask at the mitsi garage.

Its official. If you have a 2.5 v6 galant with a manual 5 speed gearbox registered after august 2001 Mitsubishis service schedule says you never have to change your manual transmission oil! :speechles .

If yours is registered before august 2001 you need to change it every 36000 miles.

Im going to do mine anyway, but I wonder if anyone with a high milage galant and full mitsi service history is running around with 100,000 mile old transmission oil?.

weird.

My V6 sport has the 13"x7" front plate. Basically i think it looks better then the usual rectangular uk plate (plus mine came with it when i bought it). As long as the font and spacing are to uk standards you shouldnt have a problem.
You can fit a motorbike sized one, but the old bill can be a bit fussy about them. Spirit recently got done for that same problem. Easiest way round it is to carry your standard one with you and tell them you were at a show event and forgot to change it back!
BTW is that a pre-facelift front bumper on yours? Or is it my eyes?

Not wanting to cause any confusion ..... but I have a service check list from mitsubishi that says 'replace manual transmission / transfer oil on all vehicles at 54000 /help

Paul , glovers bumper is the 1st facelift - yours (and mine) 2nd facelift

I know when i replaced my manual gearbox just over a year ago, i did approx 1000 miles and got it replaced, but im buggered if i can remember the service interval after then. Sorry.

Odd, a pre-facelift front bumber on a 2001 car. Thats not right surely?

The sheet glover has there makes no reference to 9000 mile servicing at all......

The Vee

Manual FWD do have a diff - it's all part of the gearbox and lubricated with the gearbox oil.
The bumper looks to be the same as mine. Facelift 99 on untill the final facelift (2nd) which is when sports, classics, and "can't remember the other/pan ) got the Bigger job like the VR4 facelift.

I think the Sports with the VR4 stylee sneeked out well before the december 01 rationalisation of the range to classic, equippe, and elegance which all got the VR4 treatment

Sports from 2000 on

The V6 sport came out before the 2.0 sport as well I think

I had all of this written down when I was car shopping last year 'cause it is really confusing - especially as a lot of unsold Sports - discontinued in dec 01 were carried through well into 02 as unregistered stock by dealers......

So far the only thing I have found to be different between a 2.0 classic and a 2.0 sport is a different colour console surround....

Sport does sound better though.... or GLS Evolution :pimp2:

Anyway... about this gearbox oil ..... if its 36000 im screwed, 54000 better start saving.... 98000 im off down the pub ........

When i had the oil changed in my new gearbox after 1000 miles, they only charged me £25. I got them to do it as its a bugger without a car lift, and i couldnt be arsed!
