Interesting point Rich.....following on from this, does anybody know the boiling points for the likes of DexronIII, Mitsy's Diaqueen, and Amsoil ATF ?
I often find my PS fluid reservoir resembling a small kettle after a few laps of somewhere like Combe. I usually have DexIII in it, but would the Amsoil stuff be less likely to boil? Or am I just talking rubbish!?

I know dextron 111 is higher than 140Deg as thats what temp it's in our test rig at work.
There is a difference between manufactures as well ie texaco is slightly diff from bp's.
will dig out info i have at work for PAS fluids

Amsoil ATF being synthetic unlike Dextron III etc etc has a very much higher boiling point.
I tried to open the link to the Amsoil spec above but it didn't work for me so heres another link; http://www.performanceoilsltd.co.uk/automatic_transmission_fluid.html
the spec is down the bottom, also note how much more heat it can take without suffering (unlike Dextron III) The 900hours life under testing is a bit misleading as this is when they stopped the test not when the fluid failed.
