Well as i'm new to the track i would like some advice.

1st of all what do i need to hire out a track for the day, taupo or pukekohe. Do i need a club race licence and what condition does my car have to be in?

Then for a biggest question, what should i do to my car?
I have the big front mount, exhuast, 17psi, bilstien adjustables, have removed the speed limiter and will get some race pads.

That the short on the stuff on my car and i have to race a wide range of cars including an evo engined 1988 lansar 4x4 that has evo everything but is way lighter and a massive turbo and front mount. That car i don't think i keep up with, but i have beaten WRX STI RA which will be their, a turbo Cefiro and 2 syliva's, V8 cortina and some escorts to name afew so far.

Any help would be great.

Well in my long lost mis-spent youth, I was a member of a car club and regularly participated in "club days" where either our club or an MANZ affilated club would hire a circuit for the day and run racing in various classes. The club or the circuit would provide safety marshalls, their gear (flags, fire extingishers etc.......and a drivers briefing on safety, the meanings of the various flags the marshalls would wave from time to time and the general driving behaviour expected from all participants).

The "clubman" class was open to all comers and all that was needed was a vehicle with a current warrant and registration. The driver needed a valid, current full drivers licence and an approved (by MANZ) helmet and a clean set of overalls. Note the overalls had to be reasonablely clean, not covered in flammable oily stains but they didn't have to be the fire-proof type, just plain old workshop variety.

And that was about it. Away you would go............:2thumbsup

As to car set-up. Well, tire pressures need to be lowered (the tires take a beating if you're trying hard enough and heat up, increasing their pressure way above those 'normal' street driving would generate. Tape over all the headlight, tailight and indicator glass to help stop broken glass (from gentle bumping.............../Grrr :inquisiti :speechles /pan ) from falling all over the track.

The bumping was discouraged but that doesn't stop in happening, especially from those with little or no experience, who think they are Senna and try late braking manoeuvres, diving down under you in corners and promptly understeering straight through the corner and off...............ha ha..... hopefully not taking you along with them/Grrr /help

That just leaves jumping into the car, putting on the helmet, turn off brain and get it on..........

:2thumbsup

I'd be super keen for another track day, same as Mike though... late in the year would be better. I know Uc's pretty keen too...
SNWMAD, have you got one organised that you're planning for, or are you just in the planning stages...?
Obviously the more people we get involved, the less it'll cost each person to split the track hireage. I raced at Taupo last time, just before they did their BIG upgrade... it'd kick total a$$ now!

When I was in Aucks at last weekends dyno day, UC, MPau and I were discussing this very idea.

The idea was to have an event that could include as many members as possible from both ends of the island, so something central would be needed.

The event that was suggested was a track day at Taupo circuit. This would be a great event for both Aucklanders and those of us at the other end of the island to get together at.

We agreed that this would need to be arranged for the summer months to allow plenty of time for people to make arrangements. There would then be no excuses about short notice etc then.

OH sh*t, I've hijacked yet another thread.......................Bad boy, bad boy/Hijack /Hijack

Must stop doing this...................................../pan /pan

Futher to my first post about requirements to go racing.............

Talking with a work colleague, it seems the rules have been significantly tightened since I was last let loose on a race track. According to him (he is car club member and part time wantabe racer) you will mostly need a MANZ (Motorsport Association of New Zealand) club racing licence to join a proper race event. A racing event is a race with more than two cars doing more than five laps.........I think.

Anyway, best to check with the organisers and the circuit, what the licence and car requirements are these days as they have (like all things) made it that much harder to have any fun/pan ................End of rant/Grrr

My bad, here are the rules:

http://www.tauporacetrack.co.nz/rules.htm

I take it thats what you meant where it says:
"No Competitions or Events of any kind are to be held without the Hirer obtaining and complying with an organising permit or other written sanction or authority from the Governing Body."

I in planning stages at the moment and it will be in the summer months as we all have work to do on our cars. to hire pukekohe i think is a full day at $1000, but that might have changed over the last year. A full day is a long time, and in the legnum i will need the nearest gas station to fill their reserves lol.

Anyhow their so much interest around the Bay of Plenty region with my mates, their mates to even my auntles and others that it would be a shame to not give it a try. Do something legal that should bring people together and provide an awesome day.

So i will keep everyone posted on my slow progress in organising it while fitting in my almost full time job and full time study. Thank god i like a heavy workload otherwise my car would be an A to B affair.

It looks like i will be saving for a link g2 or something before summer, brrrm brrm

Where can you get track insurance from?

No where in NZ.

back on toopic...

To be honest I would lower the boost to closer to 12PSI or less, there is a lot of extra stress on the car when racing.

Try and get your tires evacuated and filled with nitrogen, probably wouldn't go for race pads unless you have upgraded the rotors, but some good street/race pads, good brake fluid is a must, as I found out when I pulled into the pits at Puke and had no brakes. Make sure you have 98 octane fuel in and warm up the whole car with a couple of slower laps.

Also avoid standing water on the track........

Yeh i'm from Tauranga/ Tepuke, but live in Hamilton to study.

Nitrogen, is that alot more firmer on the track or something?

While my car is in getting a new diff and adjustables put in i was wondering if any of you NZ blokes knew how much it costs to get a GReddy ultimate up and running?

SNWMAD: Info on Nitrogen:
http://www.toyo.com.au/tech_info11.html

The old man used to own an engineering co so might be able to sort out some bottles at cost. Anyone who works at a place with welding equipment should be able to sort this out too.

As for me, depending on when you guys do this, I'd me keen. But at the moment I would have to tie Mary-Kate's grill around my neck and run around the track with you. I bet I win too......
