It seems kind of boring.. is it really a HKS filter?? (I have a sticker on top of the MAF that says it is..)

It doesn't look like an HKS to me. It looks very standard! But I have been proved wrong before...

Looks standard to me too. Aftermarket one's are usually red or other colours and are also slimmer.

Just to re-confirm, arn't HKS panel filters green IIRC ?

I have a HKS panel filter in Ariadne. It's a lot slimmer than that and the filter material is a green foam. As everyone else says, that's just a standard one, and it's a mucky looking standard one at that!

I reckon I have to open my wallet once again and buy a better filter then.. :undecided

Which filters do you guys recommend if I want to keep the original box around it?

HKS and Ralliart both make panel filters that will fit in there.

Also you may wanna try these guys (http://www.sumopower.com/hksint.htm)...if you scroll down about 3/4 down the page you'll see "Super filter - Replacement airbox filter"...not sure which is for the VR4s tho.
