At the risk of going off topic, I would say it is worse Glenn; Those pictures don't have any (to use an awkward phrase) 'private parts' exposed and they're not animated....:inquisiti

But it's suggestive - and if a kid sees it.... Doesn't really matter if it's animated or not - look at it from another perspective, hows about the violence in Anime? is that any more palatable because it's animated?

Also.... what about the ladies on here too? What about if they had avatars of some bloke waving his willy about?!

On about the top gear link - well, it was a link, rather than being on the site - sure, you could argue that it should have carried a warning, but again, nothing actually revealed....

how many kids watch MTV or even top of the pops these days ? most of them , there is more suggestive stuff on there than anything i could have watched or read when i was younger , why does everyone get so upset over a 100x100 gif when satelite tv is beaming haed core porn into your house for 12 hours a day or then theres the internet, a few presses of some buttons and hey presto stuff thats a 1000 times worse than wodg's cartoon of leggie (oops sorry glen the secerets out ) at the end of the day any child who is old enough to come and read anything on here also probably teach us a thing or 2 about goings on behind the bike sheds

My view... for what its worth

Kids: If they have internet access, then to be honest Glenns little animation was nothing. I had seen worse than that even BEFORE I had the interent (Magazines, dialup BBS etc)

Work: You would have to have a fairly anal boss to get uptight about that... get much worse through email. This site isn't exactly a porn site, and that is obvious. it is also obvious that the pic is an avitar, rather than something for shall we say gratification.

Of course to some extent we have to make decisions on this (ie make a precedent) because we need to choose to let people have dubious avatars or not. Sure, a one off is nothing bad in my eyes, but if everone had an avatar like that, then I would have a problem with it. So the question is, where do we draw the line?

We have those "policies" too, but generally they are only used when it is found you abuse them.

To be honest, if that is an issue where you work, you shouldn't be surfing the club forums anyway.

As someone who has made the mistake of attaching images which some find hilarious but others find overly rude, or even offensive, you have to adhere to the wishes of the site moderator. All forums you go to have this underlying rule, what mod says goes or you get kicked. At the end of the day, you have to respect that...

I agree with Kenny here, cos if you are worried about your boss seeing summat you shouldn't be looking at ! Then you shouldn't really be looking. And as this site is Non work activity, your argument doesn't wash.

Before commenting on this, I hope that no-one takes my comments the wrong way - I am aware that comments in this sort of debate become sharper in written word.

But, I do think it is a bit harsh to refer to people objecting to this as 'anal'. Everyone is entitled to their own views about porn whether hard or soft, and that doesn't necessarily reflect how easy going they are. As has been very aptly established above, there are plenty of avenues where such material is easily accessed by those who want (and by those who don't want). I do believe people should have the choice. At the end of the day, this is a car club, and people using the site also deserve the right to choose.

I also do not accept that 'cars and scantily clad females' should necessarily go together. CVR4 has a wonderful reputation for being different to other car clubs, and more accessible to all. Part of the reason for this, I think, is that the club doesn't associate itself with some of the activities associated with 'laddish car culture' - including portrayal of women, boy racers etc.

Finally, I would like to point out that while CVR4 have been very welcome of me as a CVR4 widow (for which I am very grateful), there is a perhaps understandable undercurrent of having partners accessing the site as spoiling the fun. While I don't object to that, it does make it quite hard to join into debates such as this - I cannot speak for the other women using the site, but that is certainly something I have considered before rocking the boat.

With respect to all :)

Personally I think its great to have the female counteraprts on the forums. Don't think I officially said welcome though... And I deffinatly wouldnt say you spoil the fun...

I don't know about you brits (and whatever else you all are) as it is sometimes a bit hard to know what you really mean without knowing you personally... However in NZ we just tend to be /STP
Cant talk for everyone, but havent really come across anyone who doesn't think having the CVR-4 widows isn't a good thing.

Thanks Kenneth. I didn't mean to imply that I felt unwanted, and I know most of the comments have been made in jest. But I also understand that some members may feel a little restricted by the CVR4 widows network that is now forming. :uhoh: :)

I was actually acting on behalf of a fellow member (not mod) who PM'd me about your avatar. A polite request was made to remove it following this comment, which Glenn did.

I think we have discussed this topic in the past and agreed CVR4 is different to other clubs and we agreed to try and keep it clean as much as possible.

I have no major issue with your new avatar Glenn, but I can see why people who access the site from work may.

Edit: Just found the original thread when the mods (only a few in those days) discussed avatars and it was a split decision then. The agreement in the end was that if someone had an issue with an avatar it would be put to the (now) committee to discuss and removed if felt necessary. We'll let you know Glenn.

The original one was ott hence you were asked to remove it, the current one is ok - there wasn't really an issue it's just the committee used the current one as a test bed for current club procedures.
