Throughout the 6/7 year life of the VR4 did they update the AYC systems or do the last ones built have the same EVO 4 based system as a 96 model?

I beleive they all have the same system, didn't evo's change with the EVO 7 model when they received super AYC and ACD?

I am not sure. I thought they might have changed earlier. They certainly did something for the 5 and 6 because the system in the 4 was famous for its unreliability.

I was lead to believe that the system was "tweeked" after the 96 model for reliability.

I read something in the members area stating there are two types of pressure switch for the ayc, switch was changed around facelift time, so there *may* be differences, certainly with the electronic/software side of it.

The switch was different only.

Going by previous threads i can remember.

V reg onwards used the upgraded Tommi mak pump to run the VR4s, but I dont know if they also fitted the stronger 7 type diff casing, I could tell by looking under a car, or by pictures of a lowered diff, but they dont often break, so I dont see many in the workshop!.

Interesting, has anyone one who has a newer reg also have a pic of the AYC Pump? If got a pic of a 97 one in my AYC switch article, would be interesting to compare.

Im changing the whole AYC pump on a Vr4 legnum estate in Bristol tommorow, so will take some piccys, whilst underneath in the M4 service station!

Roger - you've only made 7 posts on the forum, but with each your shedding more light on this mysterious AYC - it's much appreciated.

I was told that the S2 5spd's didn't have any AYC.. Is this correct?

jase - I assume you mean Series 2 or facelift models? I know of facelift manual cars that have both the AYC diff and the LSD diff.

there is no real pattern to which cars do and don't have AYC in relation to their gear boxes, it seemed more like it was an option on some.

It is the Type-Vs that don't have it they can be either manual or auto
