Can we have a pic ?

If this the type of car i think it is, it's a nice looking car.

I came accross 1 on my travels about a month ago! (A White 1) I was being played with, by an M6 on the A1 for about 30miles when i saw Subaru GT in white on the inside lane. I know he had spotted us as he started to speed up as we approached him. I was actually speaking Pez on the phone at the time ! The GT pulled out in front and floored it ! Well i was impressed ! Upto aroudn 130mph it was a dead heat(with the M6 tapping his fingers behind me) from 130 to 140+ i was only marginally gaining on him. Then we had to slow for traffic ! We then also had to turn off up a slip road. He gave a wave and a smile
Been wondering eversince exactly what was under the hood.:speechles

What's the fuel consumption like on these? dare I say, it could be a cost effective alternative to VR-4 ownership. Shame about the gearbox thought, no tippy feature.

spannerzzLFC
28-06-2006, 11:18 AM
Fuel consumption is heavy but only if using both turbos (ie flooring it)
i cruised to hull and back from liverpool and was getting about 28 mpg but have known it to be as low as 20mpg.This car as only ever had optimax petrol in it since being in the UK an is a clean comfortable cruiser and dare i say i think as fast as any VR4 but maybe im wrong lol

As low as 20 :inquisiti I'd be impressed if mine achieved, as high as 20 :speechles

And i don't think the 1 i had a Razz with, was standard:thinking:

The first turbo kicks in just under 3000rpm and second one at just under 5000rpm but if kept under 3000 so turbo is not kicking it is just like any other 2 litre car fuel consumption wise.

Im thinkin one of these would beat a VR4 but again maybe im wrong lol

With heavy modifications, but I doubt it would as standard. They have less power and prolly weigh roughly the same give or take 100kg's.

We see those here everyday, I swear every 5th car is either a Legacy GT or a Legnum :)

imho the Legnum is streets ahead in refinement, and the power band is a lot smoother across the rev range, the Legacy's are quick above 5000rpm, but there is a nasty gap when the small turbo stops and the big turbo starts where the car feels like it is a 2.0 N/A that VR-4's just don't have.

It's still a lot of car for the money though.

This was a review about the B4 RSK vs the VR4. The full review is in our members library, but here are the juicy bits, just to quash any rumours about Legacies being better than VR4's.

On the road, though, it’s the Galant that really shines. The weighty feel to the steering and armfuls of feedback from both helm and chassis encourage you to press on as soon as the traffic frees up. Any thoughts of the auto-box hampering progress are dismissed the first time you ask it to kick down. On only a couple of occasions did it need time to think before selecting the appropriate gear. Otherwise it delivers smooth, effortless and unobtrusive changes whenever your right foot demands.

After the Galant, the Legacy’s a bit of a disappointment. Over-light steering and continuous fidgeting on those 215/45x17 Bridgestones (the Galant wears identical size tyres) means you have to work hard just to keep the Mitsubishi in your sights.
Turn in too fast, and where the Galant can call on AYC to see you through the corner, the Legacy feels clumsy, rolling onto its dampers and relying on the tyres to resolve the situation. It’s hard to believe the Legacy comes from the same stable as the Impreza.

And it’s not only through the twisting stuff that the Legacy loses out. A noticeable trough of turbo lag below 3500rpm allows the Galant’s six-cylinder grunt to pull out half a cars length over the Legacy, and by the time the Subaru’s boxer engine has called upon its second turbo at 4500rpm, the VR4 is two, nearly three lengths further down the road.

Owned a saloon version before I bought the VR-4. Really good car and quite quick, at around half the price of a VR-4 it is a bargain.

VR-4 is quicker and far more refined but for the money I would buy one again.

Good luck with the sale :2thumbsup

All of a sudden, the surface of the sea appeared to tremmor as HMS Kieran steamed into view, the bow cleaving through the choppy waters with a furious disdain, great clouds of smoke pouring from the funnels. For the first time in many months, the Deck guns were manned and ready to fire....

Okay. First of all, Spannerzzz.... All of your previous posts before you started this thread were all 'for sale' ones. When you look at it that way, whilst you may not agree, I'm sure you can see where Soapy was coming from. I don't know either way wether you just use this site as an add-mag or not. But the post evidence does kind of suggest it...

Secondly - I can understand you being perhaps irritated by Soapy's comments, but the response i've quoted above is totally unecessary. If I were a prospective buyer i'd now be looking elsewhere. I would not want to deal with someone who reacts in the way you have.

Now..... Can we leave it at that please. Any more mayhem and this thread will be locked. Thankyou in advance!

Well said that man! I'd give you some rep, but you've got more than you're fair share already.....
Actually come to think of it, i've got some old washing machine dampers i'd like to sell. Of absolutely no use or interest to anyone who has a galant, but im sure some "busybody" who stumbles upon this site looking for washing machine dampers will be pleasantly surprised...../pan

Ok coat got, wood firmly in the hole.....

I have 15psi of boost at 3000rpm dude, with a 2.5L engine and 6 cylinders... standard VR-4 will get around 6psi at 3000, eithier way you are pretty much boned unless you have some mods

Are you sure yours is a Twin Turbo?!
It's a sequential turbo set-up - the first small turbo kicks in almost immediately and is out of puff at 70mph in top. As the second spools up there is what's referred to as 'The valley of Death' - a gap in any sort of turbo power between 70-80mph - really where you don't need it. Yes you can try and eliminate this by de-catting the 2nd turbo etc. but it's still very much there.

These lumps are nowhere near as tuneable as the Impreza but with a few mods you'll see 250ish BHP and that nice boxer noise. All Legacy Twin Turbos were 'GT's' with GTB's being equipped with Bilsteins. The next shape is when you started to get RSK's etc.

On a good day you'd get 20-23mpg regardless of how carefully you drove. A very agricultural feel to them in comparision to the VR and in performance terms not even on the same continent...but for £2K a bargain nonetheless.
A good stepping stone perhaps as your first experience of performace wagons

The GT/GT-b/RS have the EJ20 engine as used in the Impreza(although in different spec, 220-280bhp). So in theory you could have a car as tunable as the Impreza if you wanted to part with the cash. I've found it easier to get model specific aftermarket parts for the Legacy than I ever did with the VR-4. In my experience both are good cars with pros and cons. :curtain:

Have to disagree, the reason I ended up selling my Legacy was it was very hard to tune. The ECU was a total pain and kept flinging up error codes at anything I tried top do. Most tuners treated it like an Impreza when it isn't and ended up causing me lots of problems.

Found it hard very hard to get any specialist knowledge on the car.
