I have just fitted a set of Magnecor leads to my Vr4. I ordered the FTO 8mm set from Camskill. First impressions they look a better quality of conductor than the standard set,and feel more flexable.

If i had known the correct sizes of the original leads then i would have got them made up to that size.
As you can see from the pic below the cables are just a bit too short although they still work I would of preferred a bit more slack on the too short ones to make a neat job. I'm glad i did this mod as it gave me a chance to nip up the splark plugs that i did the week before.Cant say i have noticed any difference in performance but took the car up to 150mph without any hesitation.

I fitted the same set to my car but they fitted perfectly.

All 3 ran together no problems.

What is the connection order I'm sure i did it correctly. This is the only reason i can think of that mine are short.

This is how they are connected now.I drew this before disconnecting. i wonder why the lengths haven't worked out.

i've probably ballsed the install up some where along the lines. If i can be arsed to strip the inlet manifold off for a third time in as many weeks then i'll have a go of making them fit.I was to carefull about getting the firing order correct rather than taking notice ofthe lengths./pan

^ If your leads seem to be wired incorrectly as I've done above, the probably are.

Below is the correct way to connect the leads when facing the front of the car (pictured provided by PaulC). If you cock up the order you will end up having to remove a lot of kit to correct the mistake - more time consuming rather than difficult... I'm quite good at it now after having to remove it a second time :P

Perhaps the mods could make thread into an article or sticky with an easily referenced titled such as "firing order / how do i connect the leads?"as it easily and concisely illustrates a quick and simple means to avoid a potentially confusing scene. :D

This thead it 3 years old, if you want one for a sticky just start a new one in and put the correct cylider numbers in

1 3 5

2 4 6

and the firing order is 1-4, 2-5, 3-5 thats how they should be wired up.

You've got something wrong there Richard, 2 No. 5 cylinder

how does the 6th cylinder fire.

Just fitted the 8.5mm to mine, wasnt overly impressed with the fitting, no reassuring click, yet no problems so far, with them. they are a bit short, not much, dont bother emailing magnecor, I did, still no word back from them about this problem, even so if you have fitted them they wont replace them.

Still cheaper than a standard Mitsi set, which were about £160 it all worked out at

Mine were a smidge too short (that's a nautical smidge, not a rural one) I'd say about 2cms. They reach, they follow the cable routing.....they're just not tidy.

I wonder if there are some quality control issues around lenth?

Interestingly, mine were sold as VR4 specific, but the box said FTO, but the leads had a label saying "VR4" wrapped around them.

I hate to do this but.......

Measure the resistance of your old stockers.

Then measure the magnecores.

Often they are more than 10x the no of ohms per foot than stock leads.

Cheers,

Ben.

Old thread ressurected I know but:-
to anybody that has recently purchased Magnecor leads and subsequently fitted them, did you buy the blue Electrosports 80 cables or the red KV85 Competition cables? Which ones fitted and which ones were a bit short?

I got the red KV85 cables listed on Camskill as for the VR-4. They came in a box with a sticker on which says 'FTO (GR) 2.0i V6 non MiVec Quadcam'. Inside the box was a small square of paper with connection instructions for the VR-4. I'm not concerned, just wondered what you got and which fit.

I have the red KV85 but did not buy them from camskill as the FTO ones are a bit short. You can buy the correct fit direct from magnecor or sparkplugs.co.uk

If mine don't fit then I'll be contacting Camskill and asking them why they are advertising them for the VR-4 when they are designed for the FTO. 'Almost the same' isn't good enough.:shout: /boxing :furious3:
If they do fit then :D

I got the KV85s from Camskill too. And they are a tiny bit short, but a little fiddling with the cable run meant they just fitted okay. Not perfect - but then no problems since fitting them either.

I got the KV85 from Magnecor direct and had no issues with fitting or since.

Hmm...mine were from camskill and could have done with being longer as above.

VR4 Part number is 65116
FTO is 65109

I got the blue ones (KV80 ??) from Camskill 3-4 months back - they were sold as VR4 specific & were within +/-5mm of the old ones (I measured). No problems fitting them regarding cable length but I do wonder about the length of the posts for the rear bank. A reassuring click would be nice when they engage.

TBH, I may still purchase the correct VR-4 leads, as I would like to place the leads in the cable clips provided so that the leads do not rest against the hot heads directly - which will hopefully help with longevity. There is definitely insufficient length to use the clips in this way.

So I might just stick them on FTOOC for sale. Reckon they'd go fairly quickly.

I ordered my KV85 (red) cables via a Swedish company in Gothenburg that gets them directly from Magnecore. Box said Mitsu Galant/Legnum VR-4. Instruction inside said the same. Fits perfectly but as other people have noted one miss that reassuring click.

The 8mm leads can go thru the stock clips if you drill them - but they are very brittle.

The problem is not the clips, but that you can't run the leads through any clips, as it adds just that little bit of extra required length, which isn't available in the FTO leads.
