Maybe its just me, but can some of you experienced guys help me out? I have a96 Legnum VR4, totally standard for now. On a full tank, I will only get a maximum of 280 miles, as indicated on the trip and the fuel gauge!! This is driving normally, no high speeds. I am sure this cant be right. If i put my foot down then it turns into 220 miles off a full tank!! It keeps developing little problems, seriously squealing belt when AC is on, another squeal when turning full lock to the right? I love the car but im getting seriously annoyed with it. Oh, and im sending my joining fee on tuesday, seems well worth £20.00

Hi bebsVR4

Welcome to the forum

I use to work and live in Aylesbury moved up north just over 2 years

280 miles is pretty good actually I get about 212 in mine taking it easy ish

Sounds like the belts might need tightening

Sounds Great.....
We average 250 out of ours if light footed, 180-200 with lead boots.

I've been corrected by Richy.... he recons 100-150 with lead boots/pan /pan

It is possible to get 300 miles out of a tank, and even more than that, but you have to drive really slowly, your car isn't particularly thirsty, so don't worry about it.

HI
as above, your mpg is good

you've just got to get used to how flippin' small the fuel tank is - 60ltrs/ 12 & a bit gallons - where you'd expect a 16-18 gallon tank

That seems a bit heavy for 'normal' driving - 420 ish out of a tank is normal for mine - but it does live on the M62 / M1

Have you worked out your actual mpg?? the galant fuel gauge is really pessimistic through the bottom 1/4...

Is yours Auto or Manual? The auto will use a bit more fuel....

280 miles out a tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you lucky, lucky, lucky, jammy, lucky ba.....

I dream of 280!!!!

seriously though thats good.

Normal driving and a few "spirited" blasts keeps me around 200 - 220 max :(

Its an auto estate .. usually short runs around town! Can manage a bit more on a run but nowhere near 400 miles!
How do you manage 420 miles on the M62 'car park'?

I got 280 miles (450km) out of a full tank last week in my 99 tiptronic Legnum VR-4. I was driving like a grandma though and these were all highway miles. I reckon you need real dedication to get mileage that good out of our cars.

I had 270 miles from my a couple of weeks ago, a run down the M1, M25, M3? to gatwick and back. I have noticed a definate decrease in fuel consumption since fitting the Apexi S-AFC. I have had it set to a 'safe' level by a local garage but not going to have it properly tuned until I have the boost controller and exhaust done.

Saying that, it is still set at -10% on full throttle between 2000 and 6500 revs. The garage reckons that they can take more off when its properly mapped. I am now getting on average between 200-220 miles, and thats urban driving and giving it some welly every now and again. :D

The results of this weeks motoring...... probably 70 % Motorway - M62 M1 2x laps of the M60 ring

the light has been on constantly for the last 50 mile (started fickering about 80 miles ago) - don't normally push it this far but forgot wallet today

M62 not always a car park.... I don't really 'do' mornings - usually start work at 11 so traffic not too bad.....

Will fill up tomorrow and let you know how much goes in and mpg - i'll guess at 60 litres (35 mpg)

There has to be one advantage of running a 2.0 16v....

280....! I struggled to get 280 out of my V6 in stop-start commuting.

My personal record in the VR4 is 240, but driving so carefully it gave me a headache.

At the other end of the scale, I recently had the fuel light come on after only 52 miles :D

Around town it's not too surprising... how much fuel can you get in? I've had the light on in my GLS but I've never got more than 57 litres into the 64 litre tank. I've averaged over 30mpg in 37000 miles, a mix of motorways, long commutes, short commutes sat in town traffic, etc.

Filled up - had done 462.1 miles by time got to garage

59.04 litres - well over 80 miles since the fuel light first came on - over a gallon left in the tank still

overall mpg 35.5 - a bit better than normal anywhere between 32 / 34 is the norm, 37 and a bit the best ever - the one and only time I strangled 500 miles out of a tank

Hmmm, better than the auto then Adrian... My best ever was over 38mpg though, but I haven't a clue how. Average is betwen 30 and 31, but if i did more motorway driving it would be higher of course. Haven't got a recent version of my chart online at the moment...

Just filled it up ... 23mpg over last couple of weeks with air con on most of the time!!!

just got a new personal best - 23.59mpg / 240ish miles out a tank, mostly driving like a lady......

not much of a difference in mpg between driving like an old lady (23mpg) with no "spirited" blasts and normal driving, a few high speed runs (20mpg) and giving it some welly here and there....

my conclusion is that the extra effort and concentration to drive more fuel efficiently really isnt worth the effort for an extra 3mpg / saving £3.99

I managed to get 220 miles from just over 45 litres, with boost set high (1.0 bar) and air con on. I thought that was pretty good. Normal driving with a fair few pedal-down moments.
