The new VE Holden Commodore has been released. What do you guys think of it? I think it looks very BMW-ish.

I really like it, I'm surprised they haven't got on the diesel bandwagon yet

I really like it, .... diesel .... Burn HIM !!! Only kidding :D

I will await judgement until I see it in the flesh.

Richard, have you seen the specs on the Chrylser 300C turbo diesel? It is actually a reasonable performer.

I wouldn't be buying a diesel commodore anytime soon, but for fleet and business customers, it would be fairly popular

I may tend to agree for fleets, now that we have the cleaner diesel.

Australian rubbish!!!!

They missed the boat with this one, another Aussie behemoth fuel guzzler, waste of metal.
How come it takes an Aussie car at least double the litreage to get a similar kw output to a Jap car .... I guess it's only about 20 years behind in technology, not bad, for an Aussie build.

bradc
17-07-2006, 09:36 AM
Yeah I don't know why they couldn't use a 2.8 or 3.2l engine and tune it a little bit better to make the same amount of power as the standard 3.8l engine

Enough said! Now can you all STFU! /STP

The VR-4 guzzles plenty of fuel. At least with the Holden V8, you can use cheap 91 gas..

Our Monaro with a V8, and 6 speed manual gets about 500km out of about 70 litres of 91 octane.

Mitsibushi's 4.5L v8 only puts out 206Kw and 411Nm (limited by the getlemens' agreement though). Per litre it is only fractionally better than the new SS will be.

However, if you doubled the size of the Diamante 30M's motor you'd be looking at 400Kw :)

bradc
20-07-2006, 08:09 AM
You're right, look at the 30M, it is a 10 year old engine that makes 200kw out of 3 litres. Why couldn't holden use a 2.8-3.2l engine that makes as much as the 3.6l (190kw)

Because they have only JUST got past cast iron blocks and gone aluminium and only a little further back done away with push rods.
OLD TECHNOLOGY,...that's why they need mega litres to get any degree of power out of anything.
Their car technology is still based on 1970's concepts, TCL = kill some cylinders, AYC ...never heard of it, all brute force and ignorance.

Oh Holdens are OK to drive. For a large rear drive car they handle OK as well. Yes their engine and suspension technologies may be outdated, but they do an adequate job. Brute force power has its appeal too. Drive something like a 300kW HSV GTS for a while and you'll have a big smile on your face afterwards, I guarantee it! :)

The monaro definately feels a lot more refined than the Legnum as well, it is really nice to drive, and I think it is very beautiful too :)

I think the new Holden looks good (for a holden) best shape in a long time.

If I had to own a ford or a holden, it would be XR6 Turbo no questions asked.... everytime I goto the south island I get a XR6, have driven it back to back with the Holdens in the past... XR6 smokes it on the open road and in all honesty it would smoke my VR-4 with it in one big roll your own! BUT I WOULD STILL RATHER OWN A MITSI!! /Grrr

More on the VE here (http://www.autozine.org/0_News/Archive/2006_07/News_frame.html). While the XR6T might be up to the VR-4 is a straightline, it would be lost on the twisty bits just like the VE to come. It will be interesting to see how the XR6T drives on the run planned.

Hopefully not more than the VR-4. Nah. You'll be VR-4 to the core, right .....

bradc
21-07-2006, 04:24 AM
I'm not changing my vr-4 for a commodore anytime soon, I want to get the most possible out of it before I change

KiwiTT
21-07-2006, 04:34 AM
Still (dare I say it) I agree with you, it does look better than the previous one.

bradc
21-07-2006, 04:49 AM
it doesn't look as good as a Monaro though :)

Rossco Type-S

I still prefer the styling of the BA/BF falcons, especially the Typhoon.

Wonder of they will re-do the Monaro?

According to this article (http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3744638a30,00.html), it would appear what I suspected (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6299&highlight=black+box) to exists in New Cars, actually does exist and in the new VE Commodore

Therefore keep you car, or get a classic, unless you want you movements tracked.

Three levels of Holden Assist are available when the Commodore is ordered, or they can be dealer fitted at a later time.

Sounds as if they aren't compulsory

KiwiTT

But the basic technology is still in the car, only the live communications is missing.

There aren't many fords I'd own, I think a 67 Shelby GT500 (Eleanor) is the only ford I really lust after.
