We have just had a quote locally for the VR4's second cambelt change, but what is a good price?

I did search but not many prices are given for just a belt change, so any advice will be gratefully received :2thumbsup

cheers,

J

I think that given there's quite a bit of buggering about to get at it, you're talking in the region of 300 smackeroonies all in.

I think when I had it done a few months back it cost me around 900 with a full service - takes about 6 hours and is a pain in the bum to fit

i had a quote last week for a cam belt from my local main dealer (humming bird) for £245 plus VAT so about £300 is correct.

No idea on quotes, but my experience with the alternator (as PSB will confirm) suggests it's within DIY territory if you can lock up the cam sprockets.

I know we're as likely to see Heath with a set of spanners as we are seeing hell freeze over - but it might be worth bearing in mind if you get silly quotes for labour.

It is normally associated with a "D" service.

Belts, Water Pump, Spark Plugs, AYC etc.

Cheers, everyone.

So looks like our quote of £275 all in is pretty reasonable then.

Which is a very worthwhile idea whilst the cambelt is off - siezed pumps are good at stripping cambelt teeth!

Yep, and worth doing regardless imo, and pos even cambelt tensioners as well.
