View Full Version : Is any one else Cursed with cars?

As per the title, I really am starting to think that any car I own is somehow cursed.

Mid 2004 Legnum STR, just got it back after full gearbox rebuild, driving down the NorthWestern Motorway, and a van loses a 2 meter square sheet of glass in the middle lane, which falls into my lane, landing about 2 meters in front of my car, explodes, bounces up, cracks the windscreen, $2200 to repaint the bonnet, grille, bumper, LH doors, Skirt, LH guard, which looked like they had been sand blasted.

Mid 2005, Asian driver in a minivan backs into my STR in a carpark, pushes in the grille, bends the supporting crossmember bit and puts a 50mm bow in the bonnet, and speeds off.

March 2006, Sewage pumping truck backs into my VR4 takes off the wing mirror, creases the drivers door, and takes a chunk out of the skirt, $770 all up:thinking:

TODAY, turn onto SH16, floor it, get up to 120ish, truck going the other way goes over a pothole and loses a grapefruit sized chunk of clay, which bounces across and up, putting a fist sized dent in the exact front centre of my bonnet (on the actual sharp edge of the bonnet.) :speechles

Add to that 6 out of 8 doors on both cars getting multiple dings, Numerous mechanical failures and breakages, Mitsi crushing the sideskirt on one putting it on their hoist, and i really am starting to get worried - am i doing something wrong???

Does this much crap happen to other people who drive less than 20000k a year?

Seriously anyone believe in Karma? the amount of crap that almost comes through my window is getting me a bit paranoid.../help :inquisiti

...anyway I guess all i can do is start saving again, maybe time to get a bonnet like Bradc???  :afro: Or maybe no bonnet???  It is west auckland after all.

Mind you a mate of mine hit a cow doing 80k in a CRX not that long ago, so maybe it could be worse..:5shots:

i feel mine is cursed, always one thing after another going wrong. I'd type more to explain, but for the last 4 years, the car has never not been 100%..

If you have a fibreglass bonnet it will be much more heavily damaged than a normal steel one.

I think you've had incredibly bad luck, at least it is all minor and hasn't really impacted the car that much

Thats exactly it, other than knocking off the rear bumper (the only damage i have ever caused on either car), i really do try and look after my cars, i always know exactly where each dent and mark is, yet they always seem to end up looking like hillbillie wagons/Hmmm . After the glass incident the STR was actually fixed up better than new, so its not always bad.

Anyway set your watches, in another 3-4 months i'll be due for some sort of freak damage, dent or breakdown:thinking: in the mean time there isnt one angle on which i can look at the VR4 without some sort of dent, scratch, or mark.:party3:

Wow you've had a pretty bad streak of luck havn't you!

I have 2 theories:

1: If you own a nice car... IT'S A TARGET, that and you will also notice the small things alot more.

2: The opposite to above, the cars **** so no one cares about it nor do you notice any damage.

One of my biggest peeves... Car door dentings! /Grrr /Grrr /Grrr

My car was almost mint when I got it but now I have multiple chips off the paintwork and always get doors smacked into mine. I have actually been in the car when this has happened 2 times and I nutted off at an old lady for being so careless ( I felt a little bad about it afterwards but really she had no excuse as there was enough room for her door to almost fully open )

The carelessness of some people is so irritating and the thing is it's the people with munterous cars that do the damage to others. People with nice cars usually take care when opening their car doors regardless of the vehicle that is next to them. I don't even rest my door against another.

Anyone feel the above is true for them too?

Yeah I feel the same, luckily where I park at work the same people park next to me everyday, and if anyone opens their door into mine, I will hunt them down and make the ****ers pay for it.

I've gone completely balistic at two people for doing that now, one guy was apologetic and gave me $100 to repair it, so I was happy :)

God, this really annoys me.. why do people not care?

i try to never park beside a rust bucket either, as i know they dont care about their cars.. If i remember, i try and park next to a Merc, or a nice new car.

Yeah I also try and find a park with as much room as possible and centre the car between them. Whats even better is if you park between cars where the one on the right is facing the same way as you and the one on your left has reversed into their park. That way you have 2 passenger side doors aiming at your car and chances are there may not be any passengers as opposed to the compulsory driver lol

haha, I try to park if people have parked like that as well.

some people are just *****rs.....
after saving all my pennies and finally getting my str 3 days later i walk out to my car and some dick in a truck had backed over the bonnet.
so when i finally get that fixed (excess not worth claiming) sum asian changed lanes into the side of it then said it was my fault! damaged costed up to be $3500 plus one bent tien coilover - which i had a **** fight with nzi about coz the wouldnt repalce the coilover EVENTHOUGH i had decleared them when insuring!

after a month of it off the road a week after getting it bak some tosser in an old dx rolla swings his door into it! (the side that just had been painted!) when he just walked off with a smile on his face i took to his car with steel cap boots and keys :D

so now with my vr4.....came out to it after work two weeks ago and someone had backed into the rear gaurd and bailed....$400 later.... if i find them!....

Thats terrible luck, out of curiousity, where did all of that stuff happen?

KiwiTT
27-07-2006, 10:19 PM
That is quite a bit of bad luck. Supermarket dents are the worst. I always hope to park next to a good car.

This is what puts me off spending money on a repaint.

Damn door dings. I recently had a few dings removed from my car and it is back to mint - but for how long I don't know.

Anyway, DentPlus / Dent Magician the paintless dent removal people do a good job,

Yeah I'm the same, I've got stone chips galore on my bonnet as well but unless the paint damage is REALLY bad I'm not going to bother otherwise it'll just get ruined again. That plus the devaluing of our cars makes it not worth it as I don't plan to keep this car till it's death. I want TURBOS! :bigcry:

Hmm bad luck...

Mechanical.. Destroyed 3 DOHC 4G63T motors, 1 SOHC 4G63T, 6A13TT,
3 KM225 gearboxes, 2 RB20DET motors, all accidents to, very bad luck.
Everytime without fail, I buy a car.. the clutch will go within 4000k's.
My 1st VR-4 got rear ended when I was a youngster and it bent the chassi.
I didnt understand that 3rd party doesnt cover you when someone hits ya. So im still getting $38 a month via baycorp, which in fact is his benefit money. So its kind of like a tax rebate for 15 years or however long it takes.

My girlfriend has had all of her alarmed cars broken into over the years.
Last week some punk homie tagged the words SIK into the door of her Mirage VR on the dirt with his fingers and it scratched the crap out of the paintwork. So today was spent polishing the car. If I ever see anyone tagging that or writing it they better be able to run fast.... im gonna f*^k them up!!! /pan
No matter were she parks, some clown will always come and park really close to her car and dent it. It can be a empty carpark and someone will come park next to her, and park really close to.... everytime, its uncanny.

couldn't do that its about the only straight panel left on the car.. Would rather have repaired the fibreglass than the dent in the bonnet, but hey..

I did see one on a white car on trademe about a month ago tho, so keep your eyes peeled.

I am certain my Legnum is cursed. It's black, so that probably attracts evil spirits I reckon! ;)

It has a blown head gasket and as I posted earlier, I seriously crashed it yesterday. Also had the back bumper replaced recently when someone parked behind it, hit it as they were pulling out.

I have never had so many probs with a car before. I've been driving for 17 years and yesterday was my first major accident and of course it had to be in the VR-4.

Yeah i was thinking about you, thats been a crap run as well, at least mine has mostly been cosmetic (except the gearbox that cost as much as your crash:dizzy2:)

Lets hope insurance come to the party, usually my stuff has been fixed up better than before.:smoking:

Well after first owning a Audi 80 i thought i didn't have to many troubles apart from having the price of audi parts. My brother now owns it and it has done 260 000 km with only major thing being the brake discs.

With my first euro car being a success i thort i'd move onto something that looked a little "cooler", so with petrol in mind a got a 1600 Mark 4 escort, i put an RS kit and some nice 17's on it and various other mod's including a big audio install. Well this car was a lemon, replaced nearly everything on it while the little motor got slower and slower. i then was involved with an idiot on the road who tried driving me off the road before his mate threw i bottle threw my window, and then crashed into the bach of me before bailing. To make matters worse the cop said it was my fault for braking on a round-a-bout even tho a bottle had just missed my head and put glass all in my face. the lawyer soon turned that cops opiniun around.
I did love that car but after spending 4 times its value i passed it on. I still see it around sometimes.

Then i wanted BIG.
Big car, big engine, big expenses.
I really had no problems till the "appartantly new clutch" went, (end report, not new), then went the bearings (and trust me these start to dig deep into your pocket.)
Then all the intercooler hoses were worn and leaked.
Then lightning motorsport blew up my rear differentail.
Then the front steering rods
The front ball joints.

I do expect to spend money when you drive a car that is not standard and should know by now that you do not make money off modifying your car, but who wants standard when you can have so much more. I am selling again tho, as mum says "you live outside your means", and a big fast luxury car, as is the vr4, will have to wait till i older and finished uni.

The car is on trade me for the value i paid for it 1 year ago, sad thing is to think of what it could be worth if fuel prices were still $1.20,and even worse to think of the thousands i put into it.

Enjoy modifying your cars people, you ony live once and i'm sorry for the essay.

La la la laaa, i can't hear you/pan . Sounds a lot like my parents:rolleyes4 But i refuse, i finish uni in (hopefully) 2 1/2 months, and i'll live in a box before i sell it so soon after getting it - and with the depreciation, its not going to be worth it by the time i get some crappy civic or similar. My clutch is going to be the next to go, but i think i can handle that considering i did most of the damage:beerchug:
