I suppose it was a bit of luck that i found one, I was only looking for about 4 weeks and this was the first 96 manual to pop up! :2thumbsup

The wheels look great, but they'll probably have to go. Being 19's i don't fancy paying near on £180 a wheel to get a new tyre fitted, thats just silly.

Nah - don't be worried!! We think they do this to help stop the hoses swelling and flexing under boost - you'd be surprised just how much they do! In fact, I'd say it shows a previous owner who had some knowledge of the car - Which bodes well for it's overall condition I think. :2thumbsup

I actually can't wait! The car should arrive around the 18th September, which isn't exactly far away!!

I'm still going to have an agonising wait till i can drive it, as I'm planning on not registering the car until October 1st, seeing as it will make the car over 10 years old and will save me a few hundred in not having to get it SVA's. RESULT! /Banana

that's a SEXEEEEEE 8th gen Gally VR-4 ........ my mouth is watering:bigcry:

it's only a PITY here in Jamaica we have a 3 ( yes three ) year rule on any vehicles being imported into the island. If the vehicle isover 3 years old ( for cars), you CANNOT import it.... I want a VR-4 so badly but NO ONE, and I repeat NO ONE in Jamaica is even willing to sell theirs :bigcry: :bigcry: I see VR-4's in Japan all the while but I have to turn a blind eye cauz I can't get it into the country

13 days till she arrives at my door step.

Landed in Newcastle yesterday, ready for conversion ans MOT to be carried out. Then it's being delivered to me, as I can't be arsed to drive back from Edinburough in it. It was also supposed to be going to Southampton but there was a slight cock up in Japan.

Oh well i can almost count the days in fingers now!

Hi Brads, I'm not sure I'd agree - I've done this route a few times on raids back to Edinburgh from my home close to where Si lives.

The drag down the A1/M1 is no fun - it's very busy & heavily policed. There's a few good roundabouts on the A45 cutacross past Silverstone, then you're onto the A34 to the south coast - another busy stretch of boring road. 4-5 hours of droning along at the speed limit in solid 2 & 3 lanes of traffic.

& it's not the ideal place to stop if anything were to go wrong on the car after being laid up during its sea crossing.

Si, I agree.
Get it delivered, then go out on some of the great local roads where you can discover the vr4's amazing cornering powers.

Yup, agreed there are some great local roads round our way, and seeing as i have taken the week off work especially, it gives me plenty of time to get accustom to the car. Ease myself in so to speak.

Which in all honesty i will need, seeing as it will be a completely different beast to the civic i used to own. And will more than likely scare the living day lights out of me.

Once you've eased your way into the car, try this:

I came from a 1.6 8v Galant prior to the VR4, it took me several months to feel comfortable throwing it around. I still remember being scared of pushing the accelerator pedal..

It makes the long old trip down from Edinbourgh on Wednesday, which is far too far away for my liking. I'm so excited by it.

But the stuff in the boot was an added bonus, seems the owner in japan kept all the original parts, so i'm got standard shocks and springs and disks in those boxes.:2thumbsup

Sadly my VR4 is still in at Poole Mitzy awaiting the safety recall work on the brakes to be done!! But I could be out and about in etiher the Blazer or Pajero.

Blazer (green Y reg) is more likely to be easier to spot, not many of those around either!!!

Did Christchurch to Edinburgh in 6 hrs (3 stops for fuel & 1 for Coffee) in my VR4 back in March this year.

Lets have a few more photos! And a new signature? And some more in depth first impressions!

Si.
05-10-2006, 06:36 PM
More pictures to come, when the lovely british weather is a wee bit kinder, tomorrow hopefullly!!

But in depth first impressions, well i've had it for a full day now, and done perhaps around 150km (yes it is yet to be converted). So what do I think:

I love it, absolutely, 100%, love it. For such a large and heavy car I am absolutely amazed at it's light feel and nimble, yet assured qualities. As you would expect from a big executive type, the ride quality is superb.

I feared that the uprated shocks and springs, coupled with the 19's would make for a frankly un-useable car in this country (lovely roads an all), but i can honestly say the ride quality is better than the Focus st 170 i have been driving recently. It's firm, but not bounchy, and is one of the most comfortable cars to drive i have driven to date.

The build quality for a 10 year old car is again second to none, no rattles, no knocks to speak of. The road noise, as mentioned by many people on the forum, is quite high, and i'm sure is increase by the big ol' 19 inch rubber, but with the windows up and bit of background music even on the motorway its very bareable for long distances.

Now onto the engine. The car has only done 68k in kilometres so is relatively fresh in that respect, and as such drives like it. I've never driven a v6, let alone a turbo, and the combination leads to the smoothest reving engine and power delivery i could imagine.

Its car you can drive all day long at low speeds just for the sheer enjoyment of the ride and smooth engine, still having enough grunt to get you going without having to be on full boost, which i can only credit to the superb v6 engine.

And then i can talk about the performance and handling..... AMAZING! Quick, yet not fill your pants scary, and as mentioned the car is so nimble around corners and round abouts, it really is a joy to drive. Obviously i haven't pushed the car anywhere near the limits, as quite frankly i'm scared to just yet until i get used to the sheer power and speed, but seeing a couple AYC lights coming up is a garanteed grin inducer.

I could go on more, but i'm sure your already bored of witterings and inplaces dodgy spelling and grammer! So I shall leave it at that! Overall, I'm delighted!!

If any post needed to be put in a section of 'driver reviews' or something like that one the main page, that would be the post :)

I'm glad you enjoy it so much, do you know exactly what size the tyres are? something like 225/35/19?

My favourite thing about the VR-4's is (as you said) you have a very smooth engine at low speed that can pull away from 1500rpm, or you can drop it a few gears and fly off :)
