from next spring, the 5.7 ltr V8 Holden Monaro will officially be imported into the UK, albeit with a Vauxhall badge attached. 160 mph, & 0 to 60 in around 6 seconds, all for £28,500. available in both estate & coupe form. A bit more competition then !! :D :D

Pah! My GLS will thrash the pants off of them.....
In fuel economy at least :D:D

Ok. it's quick... But corners? Methinks it'll be in a ditch if it tries to corner as quickly as a VR-4!

Couldn't agree more !!! You need to get one Kieran :D

Aussie V8 is no competition to the overall road handling of the VR4

The large size engine goes against a balanced car anyway, so cornering won't be all that great.
The fact that it's a Vauxhall means it isn't gonna be competition!!! it'll spend more time off road than a Rally car... :D

I like that actually!! very classy looking.
Naming it 'Vauxhall' really is a bad move though!

I keep finding different ones... with different lights.

I guess this is the newer shape, the rear lights are different..
website (http://www.southgate.com.au/monaro.htm) prefer the other lights personally.

It's just a 2 door Aussie V8. Even the Peugeot 406 Coupe is better looking.

I have seen both in the flesh. The 406 is much lower slung. Incidently, the 406 was designed many years before the Monaro.

For me its just a 2 door Commodore. Too Big. I have always preffered mid-size cars. Hence why I chose the VR-4. "Not too small, not too big, just right"

Has the Holden got a good name over there? as in are they respected as being a decent reliable manufacturer?
I know nothing about them other than the name.

We have a lot of badge snobbery over here, if it isn't a soft top or hasn't got the name: Merc, BMW, Jag etc it apparently isn't worthy.

I would say they are reasonable reliably and solid. The "Jap Imports" we have here seem to be better value. i.e. more options for your dollar, hence their popularity. We now buy more second-hand japanese imports than new cars.

I would say a lot of new cars are sold as company vehicles, with private buyers seeking value "secondhand cars"
