I am just back in from seeing this car. If your interested Volland, the car is worth it! :D

Ill start with the problem(s). Needs a new rear drivers bearing.....and the front drivers alloy has a dent (no pic sorry) and basically that is it. I could not find another problem. Reason for sale is that his wife uses it for shopping, and as you can imagine thats not very economical!

The odometer read 100,000 Kms (62,000 miles??). Its an automatic. Had a carbon trim. Same interior as my sport, only the blue flakes are now red. Private plate included. Also has original wheels in boot. Pics are below too. The seller (Paul) knows who the previous owners are, one of them personally. Paul has had it for 2.5 years!

Enjoy the pics.

P.S. Its for sale but he has taken it off autotrader!! >> 07815144045 <<

P.P.S. Its £6300 but he says he will accept £6k cos of the bearing.

OOoh, a Type-V. Hmm!

Not sure about the method used to secure that air filter, but other than that, looks alright, don't it?

F**K!!!

don't know what to do...

outside car is exactly like I want to... but...

is it just automatic or tiptronic?

has it got high contrast dashboard?

odometer in km's? shouldn't be in miles?

any way: many thanks! /GJ mate!!! if will meet I'm owning You a good beer :beerchug:

Nutter_John

it's is a tip by the looks and has no (edit after K's post )hi vis dash

when they come from Japan they are in KM the speedo comverter then changes it miles . So if the car has 80k on the clock but came in with 40k it has done 40kmiles + 40k KM

Kieran
17-08-2006, 10:56 PM
It's a tip. There's no High Contrast Dials and the rear Diff is not an AYC unit.

look's good, i never got round to phone'n the seller, did he mention anything about the service history, cam belt, oil/fluid changes and was he looking for a PX (in one way or another?)

He mentioned that he knew the previous owner so he knows where it came from. He has a friend who works for Phoenix Honda who I think does all the work.

As for the p/x, I asked him about that but he declined, needs to buy a small diesel for the wife to run around in.

Keiran, How did you know it was a type 'V'?? Is there a giveaway sign somewhere?:speechles

thats why you guys should be looking at "known" cars from the club.....:deal2:
History & correct servicing are probably the most important things to consider with a VR4, cosmetics and shiney bits can always be tarted up later......

so its not a ralliart car then;
"The odometer read 100,000 Kms (62,000 miles??). .... Same interior as my sport, only the blue flakes are now red."

Looks nice if you ask me, definately a type v though, as previously stated, it has a boring dash, LSD diff, no wheel arches and black surround on the gear lever.

Kalle
18-08-2006, 09:22 AM
The only things that bugs me with having a type V is the meters, they suck.. The rest I can live without, especially that AYC that seems to be causing problems and costly to fix..

The original wheels are pretty boring too, same as on the pre facelifts.

PS
Does all Type S have the chrome surround on the gear lever?
I have also heard rumours that the Type V has different gear changing ratios.. is that true??

bradc
18-08-2006, 09:26 AM
Every type S auto facelift I've seen has had the chrome on the gearshift. There are two sets of ratios, one for autos and one for manuals.

Auto:

3.789, 2.057, 1.421, 1.00, 0.731 with a final drive of 3.684

Manual:

3.333, 2.105, 1.407, 1.031, 0.761 final drive is 4.111

Kalle
18-08-2006, 09:29 AM
Of course it is different ratios between the manual and the auto..

What I meant was between a facelift Type V auto and a facelift Type S auto

bradc
18-08-2006, 10:34 AM
nope, they are definately the same

Hmmm...Your guess is as good as mine Ritch. His sights rapidly diverted from that one to the Manual version which popped up on Autotrader. No idea whether he has it or not as it is still posted on AT! :vulcan:

This car is now for sale @£4495 at redlineperformance.co.uk in Bradford. Looks as though it could do with a lot of tidying up.

yeah i spotted this last week, just couldnt find the thread lol. seems to have settled for a lot less than he was wanting, wonder what happened?

After talking to someone about this (possibly Ritch_W?) the gearbox needs work too, it was taking its time to change up and down gears using the tip.

Traded it for an Impreza. Alledgedly! Certainly would not buy from a dealer that revs the nuts off a cold engine.

So not the "excellent condition" as described in the ad?

D.J
19-12-2006, 11:58 AM
The trim in the boot has seen better days(missing some trim), also the drivers seat is starting to show little holes due to wear. the back bumper on the exhaust side is bent in ever so slightly, but enough to notice(even without the split paint). Pointed it out to the guy selling the car after he'd told me it was in pristine condition throughout(he claims he didn't notice).
It has average stone chipping along the front, but some of the ones on the bonnet are showing signs of blistering.

The pictures in this thread can only show the car in it's former glory.

Forgot to mention that the trader is running around in it as his daily driver and he did point out that the auto box is a weak point on this type of car. Could it be that the box on this particular one is nearly fooked?

quite possibly or maybe just needing the a good amsoil service?

D.J
20-12-2006, 10:53 AM
Then again it doesn't help when the trader revs the nuts off the car from cold and his lackies are also giving some of the cars they have in stock a fair bit of abuse(high revs and muchos wheel spin) . Not something I'd be doing in front of prospective customers.

Yes it is. I believe i mentioned that above ^^
The box was taking its time changing gears, a noticeably long time, whether in tip or automatic mode. but from recollection, that and the rear driver side bearing is the only 'noticeable' faults.

Well God damn me..i bought it!!!!
yes I got it from Redlineperformance, somewhere near bradford.
Yep the airfilter was dodgy when i bought it too.
I`ve slightly remedied that till i can either get an original airbox and duct or a filter that fits the 110mm adaptor plate.
I`m also shortly to tidy it up and get a major mitsi service.
she`s off the road for a week or 2 as it came with a de-cat powerflow exhaust and its obviously failed the MOT emissions, so i`m getting the exhaust cut and flanged and a new Cat installed.
As for the `box` i haven`t driven another VR4 so i`m not sure if its changing slow or not..it seems `ok` to me.
I haven`t noticed any clunks, knocks or strange noises from any mechanical item..but i have noticed some excessive inside tyre wear..but i took off the wheels as it had bald tyres on the 18"alloys and fitted the originals.so i`m not sure where it came off.
I`ll get the garage to check the bearings, alignment etc.

Congratulations on your new car and /Welcome2 to the club.

As you may already know, there is a wealth of information in the members section and if you need to know anything just ask

hey, welcome

if the box seems fine, then maybe soebody's changed the fluid... if it's red, then it's good: if khaki, then change it.

Membership gets you a discount on the sainted amsoil atf... and the discount will pay for your membership.

The pushed in rear bumper is probably just a bent bracket. Look under the back of the car and you will see a couple of flimsy pressed steel plates holding the bottom of the bumper in line. I bet someone has reversed into something and bent the plate. Simple fix!

I checked the dipstick in the ATF and it looks red and clean.
I`ll check that bumber bracket over too.
Thanks for the help and the welcome.
