Hi Gents

My cars booked in for a week on Monday to have some downpipes look at. The company im using are just going to have a look and see what they can do.

So, basically, looking for a show of hands for interest. Obviously no price is quoted yet, but i thought an idea of numbers if others are interested would be more helpful on the group buy thingy. :5shots:

So, interest be shown please. :baby:

Also, info with regards to what we want, 2.5" into 3" etc etc etc whatever you think... let me know.

I will have to think about this - it may take some time

Okay thought about it - Yep , depending on price :)

And I would preffer 3" downpipes as bigger is better /lol

Depends on what the downpipes look like... I have been asking my man who can in Japan to find me one, ever since I went to TakaKaira and found that they'd stopped listing the Kakimoto pipes.

This is the Kakimoto System. Will they look something like this, or will they look like the more exotic PRO's system?

http://carlife.carview.co.jp/UserCarPat.asp?UserCarPatID=103576

My preference would be for standard size (which I think are at least 2" anyway??), equal length primaries (but with no nasty angles in there), feeding into either a 2.5 or 3" collector pipe. My preference on collector pipe size would be 3". I have been doing extensive research, and for an otherwise stock/mildly modded motor this is somewhat oversize, and may loose some bottom end grunt - but would leave more headroom in the future....

That's true.... up to a point. The problem is, the bigger the exhaust diameter, the less backpressure there is - which is good, but too little pressure results in the cylinders not 'scavenging', especially at lower revs. It's even noticeable with the standard exhaust, if you remove the cat.... With the car de-catted, it's a tiny bit flatter low down, but as soon as the turbos chime in and the revs rise, the car feels considerably more lively. With the cat in, it feels somewhat more 'pegged back' at higher rpm, but is more responsive on light throttle.

More info here... it's aimed at the Impreza (bah!) but the information is useful nonetheless./yes

I took the cat out with standard exhaust and noticed no difference at all, running standard boost tho.

It seems to vary from car to car.... When I first re-catted mine, I did notice it felt a slight bit more eager from a standstill, but that it's 'Second Wind' from about 4500 rpm wasn't as large. Some others report sod all difference. I guess you'll see more difference depending on how modified the rest of the car is.

Tomorrow... :)

Im going to ask about hard pipe kits and a cold air box aswell....

Axeboy
14-08-2006, 03:42 PM
Right.

Straight to the point.

Cost £300, maybe more.

Im having my car done on the 2nd of september at £300 for the downpipes and £40 for a cold air box enclosure at the battery area....

I'll report back once fitted how the car feels. They showed me examples of the materials used and I was highly impressed, plus it comes with a lifetime warranty...

So, not so cheap, but i'll keep you lot in the know on the results :)

Its all way above me, but i reckon 2.5" all the way through...

having had a good look at the OEM downpipes, they are quite restrictive....

The bends they showed me looked great... :)

Bad news and good news...

bad news: A group buy is not going to be a goer... the jig to make the pipes will be too much to be viable.

good news: Car sounds great, more grunty. Feels quicker, but not had a chance to really push it in any way.

I'll sort pics tomorrow if I can.

C&C will be able to do more but would like to fit them on the car incase of fitting issues etc.

I'll post with more detail tomorrow after ive had a good blast..

I took it easy on the way home, but it was pulling stronger low down that before... not loads better obviously, but a difference, yes.

I need to sort a few bits tomorrow, then it'll have a proper run and ill see how it feels...

So far, im happy.

Had it out today and i reckon it has given the car a touch more power, but not loads, it was never going to... Hard to say, but itll be on the rollers sometime soon and that might give an idea of whats going on..

HOWEVER!

The noise is amazing, so raw and raspy! Woo00!

turbo spool is noisier again aswell...
