When I was 24 and on restricted I was paying about $570 a year for a modified VR4 with 5 star alarm (all known mods disclosed), excess was $1500.

Now I am 25 and on a full I pay $450, excess $300.

Am with BNZ (IAG), I get a package discount for having house and contents with them as well.

I also have a 25ST insured through State.
Insured for $10,000
50% no claims bonus
includes windscreen extension of $34.50
Supposedly I also have a further discount as noone else under 25 drives my car.
4 (5?) star alarm Dynatron D3800

Declared mods include lowering, mags and muffler

My total is $102 monthly and I don't actually know my excess

Think I need to change insurance companies!

Sounds like you were getting ripped off a bit. at 19 my STR was about 1500 (on12.5k) with the standard under 20 massive excess. My VR4 is insured for a couple grand more, about a month before my 21st, for $1100 With no claims from my end (two from other people tho.) which still isnt great but it only changed slightly when upgrading to the turbo... which is just bizarre

The main thing iv noticed is to keep hassling them, otherwise they just take advantage - i make sure every year that i am getting the best out of them and have switched at least once.

My VR-4 is $2300 per year, but that is insured at $25k (mods and value of car) My excess is really low at $250 and I don't have an alarm or my full license yet.

An alarm will drop it by about $500 (makes it worth doing) and my full license will drop it by another $300, sounds like I need to get a few things done :) Thats with Pioneer.

Hey im 24 and own legnum VR4 ($11000 Valued)
Insured with AMI (great bunch of people) for about $70 a month ($800ish a year) excess $500.

No Alarm at moment, Not parked in garage. real cheap compared to GTR familia i had at $1500 a year with 60% no claims bonus.

I think i have had a car long enough without any claims to make it cheaper for me to insure, will drop to about $600 a year when i hit 25.

StunEm and Rossco, your deals are MEGA good!! :o

I noticed you both live in Dunedin... I wonder how much influence the city has on things, and whether us Aucklanders could even get a similar deal...

I know that insurance costs can be affected alot just by moving around different areas in Auckland. I used to live in Birkdale but when I moved to Glenfield they put my insurance premiums up by a fair bit. A bit strange considering I was in a carport in Birkdale which seemed a much more dodgy area and now I am in a secure garage in a much nicer area.

Technically I'm in Hillcrest so maybe I should see how that goes! ;)

How are BNZ with mods dude?

All they were concerned about was the value of the mods and how that affected the value of the car.

Don't know if it does...when I insured the first one they said that they wouldn't cover it for theft without a 5 star alarm. Car theft really isn't a big problem down here. Strangely, they didn't say that when I insured my new one.

Yeah, Its where you live counts, Crime down here for cars being nicked is quite small. Doesnt matter if my car in garage or on street, AMI just give me low rates.
We dont have all those thieving bastards down here.
