Don't forget the angle grinder!!

But on a serious note, the best way of getting the whole lot out is to disconnect all the cable's wires and drop the engine, gearbox and transfer box as one big lump.... we usually lower these onto some crawlers and then lift the car's body, and then drag the engine out.

Not removing the gearbox and transfer box makes the lump heavier, but will save you about 3 hours, and much swearing!

If you want step by step instructions... give us a shout!

Step by step instructions will be very useful if you could do them, please?

Good news dude, I can get an engine lift for you.

My mate is out of town the weekend of the 26th, but we can pick it up this weekend.
Does anyone have a trailer or access to one..? Can we get access to Matipo Rd this weekend to drop it off..?

Let me know y'all.

Crap, I just crashed the car at an intersection. :stars:

I was returning from the Mitsi Dealer after sorting out some ATF and stuff. It was at an unfamiliar intersection and I thought I had right of way, but I didn't. Result - front bumper all pushed in on the passenger side corner.

I got a quote from a panelbeaters and the car will require a nose cut, new bumper, lights, bonnet etc - all up $4700. Not to mention some damage to the other car.

What is worse the other car was being driven by a panelbeater who was just taking delivering it back to a customer.

Anyway, this all happened in Pukekohe, south of Auckland of all places. This is where my Dad lives. I have full insurance with National Autoclub, with a $350 excess, so I guess that's something. I have left the car at the panelbeaters there and my Dad will sort it out I suppose. So anyway the car is gone for the present time, and it may or may not be ready by the 26th.

I'll let you guys know later, but it looks like the event is on hold. There is a possibility we could do the swap the weekend after, but we'll see.

It was at the corner of Stadum drive and Easts Road. I was turning right, heading to Bombay. A car coming from the left wacked into me. I assumed cars on the left had to give way, when in actuality they do not.

I will be there when ever it is, I have a full set of sockets, spanners and gear wrenches, you will need a 32mm for the axles as mentioned and a big breaker bar etc, I would also suggest a whole lot of zip lock bags a marker pen and a scribe to write down where the bolts all come from especially if you are not the only one working on the car, which seems likely. Trust me on the zip lock bags it will save you hours when putting the car back together. BTW I live in Waiuku and go shopping in Pukekohe every weekend and know the intersection well.

Whats going on over there guys!?

bradc
14-08-2006, 09:29 AM
Ahh yep I know the intersection. If you didn't know it, it would be a little difficult. If I'm coming from the other way turning right I always make sure I indicate right even though noone else does.

Oh OK, my Dad lives in Waiuku and I am there now. I gave my car into Larry Murphy Panelbeaters on Kitchener Road.

i guess this is a no-go at this stage still, how is the repair of the car going ? Haven't had a chance to go have a look yet.

Oh an assessor is supposed to be coming out to see it tomorrow. Hopefully it will be sorted after that. National Autoclub drag the chain a bit.

I wish I could've gone with a mainstream insurance co. like State or AMI in the 1st place with this car, but no mainstream co. would cover me for it as I have to park it on the street back home. This is even though I was over 30, had made no claims in the previous 10yrs, had a good driving record and that sort of thing.

Hi All,

Well my insurance company approved the claim and work on the car is underway.

It will be ready next week, all going well.

Good news, but there's still the problem of the blown head, so I need to reschedule a club meet for an engine swap.

When do you guys reckon would be a convenient time? How about the weekend of Sep 23 and 24? I am just picking a weekend at random to do it really - it could be earlier or later.
