Now I know it is not a VR4, but it is so cheap it must be worth the club buying for parts alone!!!!!

Click me! (http://www.1stmotorsalvage.com/salvage/wgalant.html)

As cheap as chips, Kieran could have the dash for starters! A full leather interior going begging, an engine, a gearbox..............I could go on and on!

20 people £100 each and we are nearly there!

Wish I had known, I live about 2 miles from the yard! You could have come round for tea! :D

I also went to look on my way home..........its a bit wrecked up front but not all that bad........could be expensive to repair, I reckon its a parts only car. I was thinking of switching to LPG but couldn't really figure out how it worked on this car. I would leave well alone for a repair INSERT INTO post VALUES (bad experience) but for parts it could be an earner.........a lot of the panels are chipped or dented though :INSERT INTO post VALUES (

Mo, what would your plans be? Rebuild or parts?

zedy1
03-11-2003, 06:28 PM
i was hoping to rebuild it so i could use it on lpg , i did fire it up and it had a sweet engine. what would u estimate the cost excluding the airbags, those guys quoted me £1500.00 to repair it.

enigma
03-11-2003, 06:35 PM
£1500 to repair it sounds like a good deal.................if you could get it for £3000 repaired that sounds like a good deal! The gas conversion probably cost about £1500! Think of all the cash you would save.............15mpg at 80p per litre versus 30mpg at 35p per litre. Daves quick cals show:

VR4= £7.26 to drive 30 miles :Cry1:

V6 LPG = £1.59 to drive the same 30 miles  bargain!

drive just 16000 miles and the car has paid for itself INSERT INTO post VALUES (in a manner of speaking)

Go for it! Think of all the ICE you could install........ooooooh a 42" Plasma screen that pops up from the boot floor..............................You know you want to!

zedy1

okay im going to email him and offer £1500.00

that reminds me ive got two turbos what o could put on and nos total bhp 300

enigma
03-11-2003, 07:42 PM
I wouldn't bother with the turbos, would be far too expensive and difficult. Would need to rebuild the engine with lower compression, change the engine controller etc etc etc. Just whack more nitrous in until it goes pop!!!! V6 engines must be 10 a penny compared to VR4 ones! I bet you could get 150BHP of nitrous in there giving way over 300BHP!

emailed for the car :D

Kieran

Dave/Mo - Giz a shout if you meet up... That yard's about 10mins away from me.

If you buy the car for parts, the dash is a high contrast one... make me an offer I can't refuse, though I think that getting the tacho to work may be a bugger INSERT INTO post VALUES (it'll be set for 6 Cyls??)...

Re: LPG... be careful here. I looked into it when I had my Honda Pumpsucker, and the F-series engine in it needed an LPG additive called Flashlube to lubricate the exhaust valves, otherwise valve seat wear would set in. The problem was that buying flashlube AND LPG significantly increased the cost of motoring, almost back to the level of just using unleaded...

And how would LPG react on a Turbocharged car, designed for at least 98 RON??:Ponder:

zedy1
03-11-2003, 08:27 PM
kieren the suitble dash for u would be one fron the 2.0 sport automatic

enigma
03-11-2003, 08:28 PM
LPG is over 100RON.........no worries!

The chap I spoke to in Giltbrook siad he could put a system on that seamlessly switched to petrol if I nailed it, or if the revs went above 5000RPM........I bottled at the last minute when I thought there may be a problem with the ECU needing resetting every time I drove the car!

Kieran
03-11-2003, 08:29 PM
Yeah - I know, but someone posted a thread with a Japanese site that explained how to get the 6cyl tacho working.... But Bablefish isn't the best translator in the world:D

zedy1
03-11-2003, 08:36 PM
needs to be an auto though

Kieran

Ah, crap :INSERT INTO post VALUES ( That's a manual is it.... Bugger...

zedy1
03-11-2003, 10:07 PM
yep its a manual

Kieran

/Throws that idea in the bin

Back to the 'Cunning GLS plans' drawing board then...:D

zedy1
03-11-2003, 10:19 PM
you may be able to modify it slightly so it works on your car

I think you've missed my point:Ponder:

It's not the octane rating of LPG that you've got to watch... it's the lubricant properties of it.
Like cars designed for four star INSERT INTO post VALUES (where even if you use high-octane unleaded, you eventually get VSR and then no compression); not all unleaded engines are also suitable for LPG... that's what flashlube is for - it's not a octane booster, it's a fuel lubricant - it contains compounds that coat the valves, protecting them from excessive heat generated by burning LPG, etc.

Does anyone know whether the VR-4 unit is LPG resistant?

Kieran
07-11-2003, 11:46 PM
I'm talking to myself here:D

I've found a good site for LPG conversions, AND they list the VR-4!!! Wow!!!
Seems that LPG shouldn't be a problem then?!

not buying it now

Spirit
08-11-2003, 03:37 AM
:scared1: They want £1800 + VAT for the conversion though !

The site works out your savings and at 8000 miles per annum you save approx £500 a year so that would take 4 years to see a profit - I think I can find better ways of parting with over £2k :D

Kieran
08-11-2003, 10:49 AM
I suppose it depends on your mileage....
I do about 16-18K per year, so for me, it makes more sense.

enigma

But for ~£3k INSERT INTO post VALUES (repaired) you can have a V6 Galant that has 160hp, does 30mpg and costs a mere £1.60 a gallon to fill up!
