Well ..........one can hope can't one ....??

Oh well, nice dream anyway .....

WRC Aus will be over Brissy way in 2008 anyhoo, this last year for Perth and its off the calendar for 2007, FIA will re-evaluate for 2008. We'd be starters for that. Mind you, petrol will be so dear by then they'll be running on peanut oil or something.

Hmmm ... my prediction of less cars on the road making driving a car more pleasurable because of high petrol prices is coming true - see NZ Herald (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/9/story.cfm?c_id=1&ObjectID=10399373).

Damn ... Petrol prices have fallen again (http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3787420a11,00.html) by 5c. More cars returning to the road.

Again, I filled up the car 1 day before the price drop!! ****ers.

imho the government should start to reduce the tax they put on petrol to try and stop the country coming to a grinding halt if petrol gets back up to ~$2/litre

I must say though, I expected the price to be above $2 at the end of the year, and at the moment it doesn't look like it is going to happen, so thats good :)

It would work out to a 2 free tanks of gas per year.

Kenneth
14-11-2006, 11:53 PM
well, I am moving to within walking distance of work and should save at least one tank of petrol PER MONTH on fuel. (I would say 2 tanks, but it depends on if I go joyriding more because of the savings... lol)

stupid discounts (which you are likey to waste on coffee or some other worthless crap ) are not the only way to save fuel, and therfore money. Difference of course is that one method of saving is proportional to the cost of fuel and one is not.

KiwiTT

True True Ken.

Still, I have to shop once a week at a supermarket, tank up once a week, it is a simply a no brainer, to whip out the voucher, when I pay. Not that I am really fussed, but it is good to be taking some money back of these robbers (Supermarkets and Petrol stations)

bradc
15-11-2006, 02:28 AM
If you go shopping once a week, then obviously you may as well use it, as long as your favourite supermarket supports your favourite fuel company.

I think the important thing to remember is that there is no point driving out of your way to do it, the savings aren't very much in the first place.

Whangarei has 91 @ $2.12 per litre, I know that we're near the refinery but can't see that being enough to justify the price difference compared to what I've seen in AKL (same price as Jeremy's).

I've resorted to putting 98 in the Legnum on longer trips, and 95 round town as long as the foot isn't planted. It's running a heat range colder plugs anyway to help combat knock.

I usually end up going through about $150 of petrol a month in my runabout, but I get that back with my mileage payout anyway. Fuel prices are just getting stupid.

Shell V-Power Racing 100 (not sure if ti's available in NZ) is today at 1.95 EUR/l (3,0762 NZD/l)

Whenever I go through Auckland, Takanini and Manurewa always seem to be at least 8c per litre cheaper than everywhere else. Also in Rotorua around the Te Ngae side seems to be around that price.

Shell V-Power Racing 100 (not sure if ti's available in NZ) is today at 1.95 EUR/l (3,0762 NZD/l)

Nope, Shell V-Power here is 95. All New Zealand's 98 octane petrol (except for Gull E10) is imported.

Kenneth
12-09-2012, 01:42 AM
This is easy to say and can seem correct at first, but it does not address the actual affordability of fuel in either country / region.

First of all, the median income for NZ as of 2011 was $800 per week. The median for UK (from what I could find) was £499 (by exchange rate terms equivalent to ~$1000 NZ)

Additionally, the price of "necessities" (and in fact many luxuries too) are, on average, much cheaper in the UK. (Possibly to do with the fact you have VAT exempt items where we have GST on everything, regardless)
When my wife was in England earlier this year visiting her sister, she brought back just about a suitcase full of stuff because it was around half the price of what we could get it here.

My point is that while the exchange rate might indicate that petrol is "cheap" here, it is not the same as affordability. Please don't assume that just because the exchange rate shows that your money could buy it cheaper in NZ than in the UK, that we are in any way more able to afford those prices than you lot are.

Agree with what Kenneth's said - my best friend returned to UK earlier this year and says similar regarding prices of necessities. But getting back to exchange rate and affordability, here is another example. The petrol price in South Africa is R11 per litre (95RON) which works out to:

NZD: 1.65
GBP: 0.83
EUR: 1.04

For locals (especially ones living on or below the poverty line) it is causing massive problems due to the associated increase in the cost of transport, food etc. Like anywhere at this point in time I guess, a lot are struggling to make ends meet.

Some median salaries in South Africa (per annum)

Personal assistant: R127 000 (GBP 9764, EUR 12 112, NZD 19 068)

Office Administrator: R92 792 (GBP 7000, EUR 8774, NZD 13 813)

Financial Manager: R401 723 (GBP 30 602, EUR 38 314, NZD 60 316)

Some good info there Ryan! /yes

Yes, I have seen the price of petrol rising in both regions, but am already well aware of the difference in income/cost of living, etc. I have to admit though, I've felt that recently, the relative increase in price has been worse for those in NZ. :(

My role thankfully comes with a fuel card (BP) which is obviously quite useful. The trade off being that I've to use my own vehicle(s) for work purposes, so for any business that I conduct in or north of Whangarei, the wife's Mirage gets used.

The VR-4 gets used for trips to AKL and surrounds.

Meh, the VR4 gets used everyday and gets filled every two weeks on payday around $100~120ish a fill (95).
