I have been thinking of this mod and how it will impact on "Emission" legislation.

Can you do this, and keep it compliant and pass emission testing?

in the uk you have to put the cat back on to
get it pass the emissions test.
with out the cat the emissions are sky high

Does that mean you add it on and take it off at each test. In NZ that would be every 6 months for older cars.

Our tests are every 12 months
But yes you have to put it back on and then off again

Is it worth modifying the exhaust, if you have to leave the "CAT" in.

it is still worth doing but u get extra power if the cat is removed.

I've had the cat out for two years and it has passed the MOT twice without putting it back in. Its worth doing for extra go.

KiwiTT you can have the cat cut out and have a resonator fitted in its place for around $100.00. Its worth doing as the cat clogs up around 80k and hinders performance.

I have hit 80K now !!

More performance, by removing the CAT. Sounds good ! Will look at that at my next service.

I spoke with a collegue, and said I probably couldn't get it done by a Mitsi Dealer.

Need to get it done by a 3rd party. Not comfortable getting it done that way. If the CAT section is replaced by a straight pipe, will any electronic settings need to change.

Doesn't effect anything. Also the cat does muffle sound, so normally its replaced with a resonator. You still gain around 4-5 hp.

Will be louder but your elctronics will adjust to suit.

Getting it done now. By the Mitsubishi dealer.

How much louder will it be ? Not like those boy racers with the 3" pipes

Depends how big the backbox outlet is, the HKS backbox has a 4 inch tip, and.... you can HEAR it.
The engine sounds nice and big unlike little engines that whine through a big backbox.

Without the cat it will be louder but I've never heard it so you're better off waiting for Pete to reply etc.

If you're bothered with the sound and emissions, you can get 'high flow' cats which still do their job but also give you that extra oomph.

Ooooohhhhhh sssssooooooo sssmmmmmooooootttthhhhhhh :-b

Not sure if it is the CAT removal or the oil change at 4800km, tho.
