Wheels on the Mitsi are a bit scuffed, nothing serious just scratches from previous owner getting a bit close to the kerb.

Looking at getting them refurbished/replaced depending on price...

What is meant by offset?
What is correct for a Galant Sport./dunce /dunce

I understand all about sizes, widths etc., but never quite got my head round offset.

Explanation would be much appreciated...even prepared to put up with a few insults in the eternal quest for knowledge

Offset for a four stud 8th gen Galant is in the region of +45, I think.

another good site is 1010tires.com, which has a wheel offset calculator and a tyre size calculator under their tech section.
Any 8G will be fine with 7" wide wheels in the 35mm to 45mm offset range. If you go with an 8" wheel you'll need to be more careful, you really want to look for something with a 38-40mm offset.

The standard 'Sport' alloys are ET50 offset.... a 35 offset means the wheel moving outwards by 1.5 cm which is pretty close to rubbing on the wheel arch when you are 5 up with a full boot

I dont think I have ever come across replacement wheels with a 50 offset

These have been doing the rounds on ebay with no bids and the guy keeps dropping the price..... I considered them but decided they were too 'open' and would show up the puny brakes - especially at the rear :uhoh:

I went to Fudfords and ordered 215 / 45 ZR 17 for my V6 – it has 4 spoke and 114 PCD (I think)

I ordered the cheap RS EVO 7 rims complete with tyres – old R15’s were about 2.7mm min so I needed a full set of rubber – cost £500 ish (not bad considering a new set of rubber for the 15’s would have been in excess of £300.
