Does replacing the rubber Intercooler pipe work with harder silicon pipe increase performance or is it just for show?

It will increase performance slightly.. But not as much as Hard Pipes .. Also Hard pipes give a better sound from the engine bay :2thumbsup
Hardpipes with those Silicon Elbows is good compromise :D

Nice box!

the original black rubber pipes expand quite a bit, the silicone ones don't, the hard pipes definitely don't, originals may! give slight lag.
Similar to braided steel brake lines the pressure is wasted expanding the rubber pipes rather than being forced to go where it is meant to be going.

Its not my box of bends just stole the pic from else where. i have seen the bends readily so are thinking of uprating mine as an easy option.

They will give you a slight increase in performance, but they also look very very cool :)
