Quote from Classic Car Weekly-
"BP Launch the 'Ultimate'"-BP has just launched two new fuels - Ultimate petrol and Ultimate diesel. The new petrol, which has an octane rating of 97, will replace BP's old super unleaded. The new Ultimate petrol, which BP claim will increase performance and reduce emissions INSERT INTO post VALUES (as will the new diesel) will be on 700 forecourts by the end of the year and will be rolled out across BP's system by Spring 2004."

97 OCTANE!!!! :Cry1:

So it isn't the super go-juice we thought was coming...just a sort of re-badging of their super unleaded. Is this just BP jumping on the 'Otimax' bandwagon?

My advice, don't succumb to it, save yourself a few pennies and stick with Optimax or good old ASDA / TESCO super unleaded.

Our BP ultimate is 98 OCTANE. I use this because I get AA purchase points.

Mobil has a product here called "Synergy 8000" INSERT INTO post VALUES (98) as well as 6000 INSERT INTO post VALUES (96) and 1000 INSERT INTO post VALUES (91).

If 96 gives you 280hp, how much will 98 give you ?

These cars are mapped in Japan to run on 100ron fuel and the expected power output is 280bhp or thereabouts, any fluctuation in ron ratings won't make a great deal of difference to power at least not that you could feel.
Using anything less than 97ron at least in my case makes my ECU go into safe mode so I risk losing ****e loads of power.
But 97/98 100 won't make all that much difference.
Fuel octane boosters claim about 7bhp increase from using 95ron fuel and apparently boosting levels to about 98ron.. obviously that will differ with each engine and the over exaggeration the octane booster companies tell you so you buy it.

So 98 or 96 will give less that 280. Any idea, how much ?

So will my Air Filter INSERT INTO post VALUES (I mean -" Induction System" - sounds cooler) make up for the lower octane 98 vs 100 in the HP stakes.

Possibly.. depends on many factors.
