Hey,

I'm new on the forum and interested in this car.
What kind of MPG does it achieve - and what are the implications of having an import? Insurance a nightmare?

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

Welcome to CVR4. I've got the exact same car as in the advert. The MPG really depends on what type of driving you do - as with any car. My average around town is 18mpg but then I only do a really short journey to/from work (3 miles each way) most days so that's not good for MPG. On a recent 200+ mile run back from Cornwall I managed 27.7mpg. It really depends.

As for insurance. Trying giving Lifesure a ring on http://www.lifesure.co.uk/ . I am with them. They specialise in Japanese imports. Best to give them a ring and get a quote.

Hope that helps

Cheers
Wayne

Thanks for the Welcome.
I'm kinda starting from scratch with these cars so need to learn as much as possible.

What are the official mpg stats? I guess it avergaes around 23 then? Lower than i thought?
What do they handle like?
I've just come from an MG ZT 260 4.6 Litre V8 which was awesome in the way it handled. SO i need my next car to be pretty capable too.
Cna anyone sell the idea of a VR4 to me?

What do others pay for insurance? Will all the dials be in KM/h?

Ok, hows this.... It'll annhilate a V8 ZT in every area.

If you buy a car that has already had a UK owner, all the necessary conversions should be done (Speedo conversion, limiter, FM band expander). If you buy a fresh import it may or may not have been done depending on the importer.

As for insurance, I pay £1100 - 24yrs old, full NCB's no claim history. But it's the age that kills me at the minute, when I renew I expect to pay around £700.

For what it's worth, I average around 16-18mpg in mine. Although I don't use it everyday, so when I do I probably enjoy the acceleration a little more than most.

Before I bought mine I was very apprehensive, but since have found it to be a very accesible car, most parts are readily available through various sources and regular servicing isn't that difficult. The only downside is the fuel consumption, but your only bothered about that when your on the forecourt.

I don't know the official stats but I am sure someone on here will.

I test drove a ZT190 years ago when they first came out and if I recall correctly I would say that the VR4 handles better. The ZT felt like a bit of a tank to me. I am sure the 260 is rather different though as it's RWD instead of FWD so will probably handle better.

Mine was an import. It was imported about 4 years ago. The speedo has been converted to MPH but the electronic limiter is still on there - will be taken off soon though /lol

I am paying around £650 for my insurance IIRC. That is with Lifesure. Full comprehensive with full NCD. I am 29.

SteveTD - whereabouts in Wales. Is Redditch too far to come to find out about VR4's? If it isn't, and if you have any spare time this w/e, then send me a PM.
