can i go bigger

ive got my old engine block could i bore my cylenders so i could convert the engine to 3ltr and use gto pistons or somat?

I learnt from here (http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/mainmenu.htm) that an engine is nothing more than a big air pump. A new cylinder head, with better flows gives you the amongst biggest improvements.
