Hi there,

Complete newbie question from Northern Ireland.

I've just spotted a 2.4 Galant GDi elegance in the autotrader for sale near me and I was hoping you folks could help me?

Was there a 2.4? I can find info on the 2.5 V6 but nothing on a 2.4 and if anyone has owned one, what are they like to drive?

Thank you,

Marl

Yup 2.4 GDi, im sure its a 4 pot...

Ive heard that the v6 is the better engine, however ive never driven the 2.4 GDi.

I'd imagine its a nice enough engine though, and even better if the price is right.

It's a 2002 with 61,000 on it, going for £2,850. The price caught my eye :) Think I'm going to have a look at it!

Looks like an Auto to me....

It says its manual, but looks to have the tiptronic gearstick...

However, the car looks stunning.

The 2.4GDI is ok, but not particularly economical, abou the same as the V6, but less power. Only a 4 cyliner too. Designed to run with better quality jap fuel as a result it loses quite a bit of power running them on uk fuel.
The concensus around these parts is go for the V6, smoother, faster and sounds better too, easier for spares also!
Do a seach and you should be able to dig a few threads about it.

I noticed the gearstick myself so I rang the dealer and it turns out that the car is mauve so those pictures are not of the actual car :( I've done a bit of searching through the forum and as Paul said the general concensus is the V6 is the way to go. the mpg shouldn't really matter I don't do that many miles thankfully :)

Thanks for the help folks!

If you don't do many miles then grab a VR-4! The V6 is definately a better engine over the 2.4gdi, the killer is that the gdi fuel pumps are very high pressure and if they do fail you are up for a lot of $$$. Their requirement of 98/99 octane doesn't help either.
