I've been and bought a TD-06 equipped MR2, then sold it to buy another 7G VR4!

Which I got a little creative with :)

Its the black one, not the grey one by the way.

First things that got changed on the car was the suspension - replaced the cobra springs it came with with KYB's + King springs. The ride height is about right, though firmer would be nicer. Also added in a front strut brace off a legnum, which took away a bit of understeer it had when 4WD.

Engine wise, swapped the factory cooler for an evo 4 cooler which fitted behind the front bumper quite nicely - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Markyface/newgalantcoolerside.jpg

Also ran a pod filter down in behind the foglight, where its kinda nestled inside the front bumper. Boost control is handled by a gizzmo MS-IBC, which is a very cool little unit and looks fancy to boot :D

The exhaust is a 3" job, with twin 2.5" downpipes, sounds good and helps it flow a bit better than the normal flexi-back systems these cars get - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v625/Markyface/newgalantdownpipes.jpg

Thats essentially how the car stayed for a while, but after not very long, that got too boring...

So, out came the engine. The gearbox got cracked open, and the centre diff viscous unit got locked solid, meaning 50/50 drive split... Or 100% drive to the front or rear axles only.

The rear diff was also mounted solid to the subframe - can't go repeating my previous efforts of shattering the casing!

Once this was all done, the net result was: A slower car. Reason being - the 235/45 tyres at the rear were getting smoked up all of a sudden :-o .

This kept me thoroughly amused for an entire week, right up until one of the rods decided to feel unloved and snap in half. I can look through the hole in one side of the block, and see daylight!

Got a fresh engine in last night, and after a few hiccups now finally have the thing running at full power and its a blast. 4wd may be faster - but this is so much more grin-inducing!

Gearbox is holding up just fine, as is the transfer case, to all manner of clutch kicking and rough treatment. Rear diff is on the to-do list though - it one-wheels occasionally which sucks the big one. Still does good standstills though with little encouragement.

Couple more little things have been done as well - the gearbox selector bushes have been made from solid nolathane rather than the crap factory rubber ones, the throttle body water lines have been deleted for a slightly cooler intake charge, and the shifter itself has been modified for a much shorter + direct shift.

Of course... Its never enough. Now that we have a spare block, me + my flatmate are going to make up a manifold to switch it to single turbo - the factory twins, while capable of 220kw + just aren't cutting the mustard anymore. The car has massive midrange but up top it falls over - plus having a RWD single turbo V6 galant would be a world first :fU: Looking at an evo 4 onwards 16G, priority is quick spool over outright power capability. Injectors etc are only good for 220kW max anyway, so no point aiming higher just yet.

Will try to get some vids or photos up of it in action soon... When people say their evo/vr4 is tail happy in 4wd... unless it has 500hp, they're wrong :fU:

Have to say I'm loving 7G's at the minute, A manual VR4 would do me as a great track car I reckon. Looking good AKO
