There is no special tool required to seperate the Gearbox from the engine block . If he looks at the back of the flywheel he will see that there are 7 12point torx bolts which you can not get the socket for . But you do not need to release the flywheel to break the box off - how do I know , well WRD had the same issue with mine having these bolts , they still managed to do it without any special tools .

I would suggest that the garage are not up for the job and as such you should consider talking to the CAB or a Solicitor as for them to charge you labour when they have not completed the work requested is wrong .

HOLD ON the car is an automatic why would he need to release the clutch ???

Suggest you PM Richy Rich or Wouter at WRD for advise , MO (zedy1) is also a good person .

hope this helps

Yeah, you don't need any special tools to split the autobox. There's an inspection cover on the bottom of the bellhousing. Remove this and (spinning the engine using a socket on the crank pulley) you can rotate the torque convertor and unbolt it from the crank end of the engine. The rest (as I remember when we did nicks) was just bolts.

Interesting car.... (puts on anorak)

I notice it's got a facelift chrome gearshifter like my car - did you do that?
Also, you've got Galant 'Aspire' / SuperVR-4 specification headlamps there. Did the car come like that?

Dont panic.

Find another garage, a specialist.

NOT A MAIN DEALER

Speak to Mo, he can probably sort parts. Its no where near as bad as you think.

No. 1 Do not pay for his mistake - if he can't complete the job, that's his problem.

No. 2 These cars are worth very little even with low mileage in very good condition - your car is worth next to nothing in the state it is currently in. Either get it fixed, or break it for parts, or you'll struggle to give it away!

Kieran - thankfully I'm not the only one that noticed those interesting details :)

Whats the diff between normal headlamps and aspire / SVR4 headlamps then?

the insides of them are a different colour, have a look at Steve's car, or Osiris's car, you'll see they are different

The plastic housing around the reflectors is a silver colour, not black.

Yes, it came with everything thats on it. It used to have Tein type HA coil overs on too but one of the springs was cracked so I had a full brand spankin new set of Tein super wagon coil overs fitted (£1025). I had a quote for the parts from Japtec and they said £612. Just need to get them fitted but Mitsubishi charge £60.00 per hour. My cars been in CARTOYZ for nearly 4 months waiting to be fixed but the bloke said he keeps getting the wrong parts delivered, then sends them back. He told me he took the engine apart to get it out the other day but then realised he didnt have the tool for the clutch. He then asked me what I wanted to do, then he told me his mechanic had handed in his 2 weeks notice too so it would be him by himself. He said he'd been on to the owners site as well to find out about the tools. Probably just made it all up. Hopefully I'm not going to have a problem getting the car back from him without paying for what he has/hasn't done.

I don't understand the reference to the special tool for the clutch. I have taken out the engine and gearbox, together and seperately, and have never used a tool you can't buy at any DIY shop. Without a better description of which bit and why, I would suggest that your mechanic is not sure how to do the job.

there is 1 tool that he may be missing this is a star stile for some reason there has been a few cars with these fitted as john said.(ill try and get the thread with the pic of them)
i have a pic on my phone but i cant get it on the comp and its not a good pic.

but if this is on an auto then it will be a bitch to get sorted.

why is he trying to split the engine and gear box for an oil pump????????

hE SAID THE ENGINE HAD TO COME OUT FOR THE OIL PUMP TO BE DONE BUT TO GET THE ENGINE OUT HE HAS TO DISCONNECT THE CLUTCH.

This sounds majorly dodgy to me. As people have said above, even the mitsubishi main dealers don't really know what they are dealing with with these cars. It sounds like you need to get your car away from this guy straight away before he totally stuffs it up. I'm sure members local to your area would be able to direct you to someone who could help get this sorted.

Really sorry you are having such a hard time with it, and hope it all gets sorted without too much more hassle

But, if it's an auto, there's no clutch.... Unless he's not sure how to unbolt the torque convertor as I've already mentioned?:undecided

I'm really not sure that the oil pump is an engine off job either... you can change the water pump in situ and I'm sure the oil pump is the same?

ok try this, the oil pump is on the end of crank if it is the same as the V6. I would think so.

Nice one, thanks for that. I will contact him tomorrow. I take it you can get at the oil pump with the car on ramps then. If you have the oil pump changed is there anything else that needs changed with it? Some one mentioned that the water pump should be done too.

OK the cam belt will need to come off if its due 1 get it changed (cam belt kit tensioner etc) and for peace of mind id advise to change the water pump as well.
