a. If I got an automatic 1995 6A12 N/A FWD galant and wanted to do an engine swap to the 6A12TT and keep the same auto tranny, would this be worthwhile ?

b. What about turbocharging that N/A 6A12 ?

c. How do you rate the 6A12 N/A ( never mind the fact that it aint turboed ) :beatnik2:

d. is it possible to just take the turbo components off the 6A12TT and bolt them on to the N/A V6 :lipseal

A) no, the gear box will eventaully **** itself.

B) could be done, easier to do a swap thou.

C) only driven a turbo one... i would rate it as a semi fast whale.

D) yes but it will blow up as the na will have different internals and higher compression

what country are you in? If you are in a country where vr-4's are plentiful it is probably easiest to just buy another car

if you can drive and dont act like a ****,
respect the power and you only have fwd,

it wouldnt be an issue.

there are many 4G63T convertered fwd cars here.
not heard of any issues, other than whats be done out of miss use/ stupidity

also"zantac" has a 6a13tt with single turbo FTO thats FWD, has traction probs down the 1/4

also "the vee" has a 6a13tt fwd galant, no probs

just gotta respect what you drive

ahh yep, they are very rare over there indeed. As Gly said, you could drop an evo motor in there

WHAT ABOUT STUFFING A 6A12TT IN A 8TH GENERATION GALANT .......... DOES IT FIT :huh2:

Gly

why not just get a 6a13tt 8g then?!

bradc

You can't import cars older than 3 (or is it 5) into Jamaica, and the few that are over there are prized possesions and noone wants to sell them :)

Gly
06-10-2006, 06:25 AM
so buy a 2002 8g (still less than 5 years)

or was 2001 the last of the 8Gs?

bradc

There are a few 2002's out there, but I think it might be 3 years only.

enyawbrown

The import year restriction is actually 4 years..... and sourcing a 2002 VR-4 is gonna cost major bucks......it would cost me about 11,500 pounds sterling or US$ 14,000 BEFORE importation costs..... which for a car 3000cc's or less would equal to an additional 1.6 times the value of the car..... so I'm looking at about US$ 32,400 or about 23,000 pounds sterling just to have a 2002 VR-4 sitting on my driveway..... WHICH IS ****ING WHACK !!!!!!!!!!:vogel: :vogel: :vogel:

So what I'm basically thinking about is getting a FWD 1997 or 1998 galant and swapping out the I4 or V6 and dropping the 6A12TT, or as was mentioned in a reply above, maybe a 6A13TT tiptronic in it

A 6A12TT engine costs about US$1500 or 950 pounds sterling, and the car itself is pretty cheap by Jamaican standards.. about US$6700 or 4300 pounds sterling. I have the money for the car itself, then maybe mid or late next year I'll do the swap. I know I'll also have to upgrade brakes and such.

I'm taking it one day at a time....but now I'm just asking for advice ( importing a hard to find 2002 VR4 is wayyyyyy outta my budget )

That is silly, how about an EVO, are they common over there?

enyawbrown
06-10-2006, 09:32 PM
EVOs are very common........... 2 EVO 7's were auctioned at a local auction for US$5500 EACH......... and there was nothing wrong with both....they were imported but the owner didnt bother with clearing them so they were auctioned

But I prefer the bigger Galant...I dont want an EVO at all:rifle:

May be a bit difficult. The 7g that used the 6a12 had the engine on the left hand side of the car with gearbox on right. The 8g with the 6a13 has it the other way, so there maybe a few issues with mounts, gearbox, drive shafts etc. Having said that (someone I'm sure can confirm) I seem to recall something about some far east 8g's being built with 6a12 engines.

yes, that was the VR-M (sedan only) model with mivec heads, there was also a 20ST wagon which had a 6A12, but non mivec. I saw a 20ST for sale recently in NZ.

Externally the 6a12 is the same size as the 6a13, so I can't imagine there would be any problems dropping in one engine or the other.

well guys, I'm very close to getting a FWD 1996 galant with the very very lazy 4 banger/Grrr .... It'll have to be my daily driver until sometime next year when I'll acquire the 6A13TT with the tiptronic box and throw her in:evilgrin:

But right now, all I will do is upgrade the brakes, changing out the rear drum brakes to disc brakes too...just getting better biting brakes from now on. The next thing would be buying some multi-spoke 17's .......preferably black or gunmetal:afro: The last thing would be the engine swap which wont be done until next year God's willing

I know it won't be the same as the AWD VR-4's, but I'll have to settle with it:scholar:

ok fellows, a little change of heart:evilgrin: I've decided to get the 7th gen shape instead FWD and throw the 6A12TT in her:2thumbsup

Apart from the car NOT being AWD, is there anything I should worry about
