No, I prefer a manual but was happy to live with the auto in the VR4.

I spoke to the seller today and he has said that there is no service history on the car, just MOTs. :rolleyes3

What kind of a seller wouldn't have any service history?

Very common - My GLS had stamps in the book, but no 'history' as such. It was an ex-manager's car (owned by the people who make Yorkshire Tea!) and they kept/lost the documentation from their tenure. It was then owned by a chap who just didn't keep the service bills.

thats true yeah, but when a car has done over 100,000 miles and with no service history, its highly likely to be dodgey in some way or another.

Sorry think your logic may be screwed up there , if a car has done 100,000 miles then the chances are there will be no history which is ok , but if a car has done 40,000 miles and no history i'd be more concerned that it had been clocked

As with every thing in life it's about choices , buy it or don't buy it .

yep. Its a risk either way. Uusally low mileages on older cars without history tend to be more suspicious as well.
