I had an HKS SSQV but resorted back to a Forge Recirc, i think in terms of performance/feel of the car its the way to go...

Can you quantify that a bit more, Scott? And what recirc valve did you go with?

Well, I cant remember the exact model but its the one from Camskill for the GTO. A forge recirc number. http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m7b0s192p1069

Straight away I felt the car was more responsive.

I bought a HKS SSQV just to try, and while the noise was frightening for the local kids... it got tiresome quickly. The car also felt a good bit less responsive. As soon as i put the recirc back on, the car was noticably better to drive.

As a more conclusive test, we are going to fit the Forge Recirc to conaboys car to see the difference. We are also going to fit the ARC box to his car and report back conclusive findings.

If you want a good noise, try downpipes... i love the noise of the car since doing those.

I have the forge recirc on my car. It still makes a rewarding noise but not as loud as some out there. On the plus side, the gear changes seem a lot more responsive than when I briefly fitted a VTA BOV.

Going back to recirc also affected my car in the same way as Cols, (I think I mentioned this on here a while ago when experimenting with VTA units) Gear changes seem smoother and pickup better, feels like the difference in a manual when you keep revs up in between gear changes etc.

I even noticed a difference between the stock evo recirc unit and the plastic bosch type stock VR4 type

It was explained to me a while ago by pal at mitsu why this was the case but just need to find it.

I would also imagine that the air recirculated would keep mixture a bit leaner (by how much I am not sure tho  ). maybe I could check with wideband... as there is always a huge dip in AFRs when lifting off the loud pedal.

Ive fitted a Sard R2D2 today.

bargain for a top brand BOV at £60, the R2 is a new design as well.

First impressions are that its superbly made, seems solid, but the spring might be too hard.

Ive not tried it for long, but the noise is much less wooosh and more like chatter.

I have changed back to an OEM recirc valve. It's off an EVO, but having checked (by leaving the recirc hose when I first connected it), it opens at a low enough PSI that the VR-4 engine can use it.

Similar thoughts to Pezza and ColVR-4. Doesn't feel any quicker per-se, however it sure as hell feels smoother. Gearchanges are better (Having studied the vacuum line diagrams from the Jap service manuals, I can perhaps understand this now), and the stumbling/nigh-on stalling and stink of petrol is gone.

Once I'm mobile again, I'll be able to give a more accurate evaluation.
