Hi Gents...

Im needing a new clutch as my current set-up causing slip at high boost.

So.. :book:

Ive read through the various threads before, but wondering where to buy, and what to buy in terms of upgraded clutch?

Might as well get a light flywheel too? :5shots:

Ive seen cheap evo 5/6 kits on ebay which talk the talk, but would they fit?

And can someone confirm the size... are they 230mm?

Cheers all.... :2thumbsup

Hi Axe

I have an helix uprated clutch and a lightened flywheel

The clutch , release bearing and plate cost around 600 ukp and is good for 370lb/ft of torque - not managed to slip yet even at full 1bar boost on the track

The flywheel is about 2.5 kilos lighter than the original meaning more free reving engine , this cost 345 ukp via WRD - i think if there where 2-3 people after them this price would go down as I think mine included the development work by them as well

hope this helps

Thanks mate

Where did you get the clutch from?

I would recommend a SPEC Clutch, i like mine (before i scrubbed it) its very grippy, a bit on and off when driving slow... but when your underway zwooosh off it goes..

I got a SPEC Stage III, with a lighter flywheel. - perhaps OTT, and i did reconsider thinking i should have got a Stage II.. it was abou 900 quid shipped to the UK, but i needed to get a Blanking plate created which cost me about £50.

To give you an example of difference.
at bruntingthorpe, with old clutch i only managed a 6.2
(although i did change gear before hitting 60, and there was no boost - but if you look at the graphs Dave akers put up which compare the auto/manual yu can clearly see a flatline in speed when i change gear, this imo slowed me down somewhat)
at santapod, with new clutch and no boost i done a 5.4 0-60

Barry fitted an Evo 8 clutch. I assumed you had read the thread, but if not, here it is:
http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11086

Buy it, fit it, let me know what you think!

Yeah read that one a few times, interesting stuff, just not too sure about the spacer required, but im sure ill be ok :)

If asked the seller a price for a light flywheel at the same time/.. worth a punt.

Reply from Techniclutch...

"Hi Scott, the lightened flywheel I have is made by Alcon with the detachable centre section (which are no longer made by Alcon) so its quite dear. I need £574 for the clutch and the Alcon flywheel or £474 for the clutch and our own lightened new flywheel (which does not have the detachable centre section).
Regards, John."

gents..

Ive read through the forums and it looks like all evo clutches would fit, from 1 to 9...

Do you think id need that spacer Brain had made up no metter what?

Nutter_John

I think the spacer was for the flywheel not the clutch so if your not doing the fly then you should be ok

I was going to do the fly at the same time...

Well, hopefully!

Can you remember why it didnt fit?

I see that the 7/8 kit is 230mm, but the 5/6 kit is 240mm

psb - was it a VR4 box though? Is the VR4 clutch the same as the V6 clutch?

and you moan at others for daft questions/catfight its a V6 box coz its FWD , but if i remember the diameter was to big for the VR4 engine

:p Heh!

My question was because I assumed it was a V6 box, which does not necessarily have the same sized bell housing as the VR4. When you said too big, I thought it could have been too big for the bell housing, but if it was too big for the engine, then I am confused!

As I understand it, the VR4 has a gearbox that is very similar internally to the Evo box, and externally is not much different. The V6 block can't be smaller than the I4 surely? Barry has fitted a clutch which was for an Evo 8. So if the Evo 8 clutch was too big for Mr. Vee's then something doesn't add up somehwere!

After some digging, early evos are 230mm and later evos (the 8 & 9) are 240mm.

helix report the vr4 as 240mm also....

Ive emailed barry for some more info....

Been in touch with Camskill today and they are ordering a standard clutch to investigate further.

They stock all the evo and fto clutches both OEM & uprated and are going to investigate a combination that may work with the vr4. They are also speaking with exedy with regards to developing a kit for us.

:)
