The 405 D Estate that I had bought suffered head gasket failure a couple of days ago, so all weekend i've been arguing with the guy I bought it from to get my money back. I eventually have and I'm now on the look out for something diesel, in estate form and CHEAP to buy(up to £800) and run (fuel & parts).
I'm searching in all the usual places but if anyone knows anyone, or sees anything around that might suit my needs i'd appreciate a heads up.

I spy with my little eye.... a grey VW Passat M reg estate 1.9TDi on autotrader in Leicester - 115k £795
I'd post a link but Autotrader is playing silly bugger$.... you should be able to find it from description above
I ran a petrol J reg Passat Saloon for over a year - picked it up for 300 squid - it was the cheapest car to run I have ever owned , yes things went wrong with it, German/Swedish/French and a load of independent specialists around.... car was a great learning experience in terms of DIY mechanics and dead easy to work on
Masses of space (especially legroom in the back - used to put Mountain Bike in the space between front and back seats)
Would also see if you could squeeze and audi 80 estate out of your budget

err, no.
Ritch, I managed to get £275 back, for some reason he wouldn't let go of the final £25. So i'll be superglueing all the locks, and putting some water in the tank before he takes it back tomorrow.
Arguing over £25 FFS, I was gobsmakced this afternoon.

2 days use unfortunately, plus a tank of juice of which most is left, a replacement coolant pipe and i'll incur admin fees for cancelling the insurance. I stand to lose around £100 for this bloke being an arse.
I had been quoted £400 to get the gasket replaced and all the surrounding work, I asked him to pay half which would have been ideal for me TBH but he wouldn't do it.

At least a 2001 model is nice and new for you Steve :)
Bummer your 405 screwed up, but hopefully you'll find something better out there.
