strange noise

when i start my car ( 2.0 sport) i get a motor noise like the door mirrors folding open but it aint them.. any idear's

Fuel pump, ABS pump?

its only for a few seconds could be abs pump i suppose, should i be worried?

Does it finish with a click? My mirrors try and unfold occaisonally - even though they already are. They then click when the mechanism rights itself. Other than that, as agreed - fuel pump is the most likely. Try getting someone else to start the car whilst you sit in different seats/listen from different areas.

Can also be the stepper motor (for idle control valve?)

Does the 2L have this? I know on the V6 if you listen carefully you can normally hear this.

it rearly sounds like the mirror so it could be that.


when you put your mirrors out do you leave the swicth down or do you put it in the middle again as i find if i forget and leave it down it does try to open the mirrors so i always put it back in the middle to stop it

right. only happens from cold, not the mirrors, its coming from the front o/s wheel area

hey hey, i was wondering about this too. mine (VR4) buzzes or whatever every time i start it up from cold, but only for a few seconds, im almost certain its a pump of some kind and i was wondering if it could be the AYC pump pressurising, but since 2ltr models don't have it then im probably wrong. anyway its interesting none the less.

On mine the ABS pump is.... erm not sure......
Its either by the master cylinder on the drivers side or the ABS valve block on the passenger side by the bulkhead.
