Just to upset the apple cart - what about Goodwood on either 25/11/06 or 09/12/06 ???????

Bit more expensive, 98dBA, open pit lane on one of those dates IIRC and 2.38 mile circuit ?

Hardcore trackers - please discuss /Hijack

I had thought about it but was considering doing Goodwood next year as have heard can be tricky in the wet and they are supposed to be hot on little things like tyre squeal /Grrr
I can't drive well enough not to get the tyres screaching :smash:

I will probably stick with doing Combe especially as I will be tracking a new car..

Paul, believe it or not, Heath and I discussed this very reason last night and agreed it made sense, hence this thread being called 'Castle Combe' - obviously his memory isn't what it used to be - it's an age thing, I think /pan /pan

Got the email from Bookatrack today as follows:

Many thanks for choosing to attend this BookaTrack.com event. This e-mail should contain all the information you will need for the day.

A copy of our registration form can be downloaded from the following location http://bookatrack.com/-pi?1&647 or from your online shopping basket . For your convenience please complete and bring along to event sign-on to hand in. All drivers, passengers and spectators must complete a form.

Itinerary
08:00: Driver Sign-on
08:30: Drivers Safety Briefing
09:00: Driving Starts
12:00: Break for Lunch
13:00: Driving Continues
16:00: End of Day

This event will be run in 4 x 15 minute sessions per hour.

Directions
The cicuit is located between junctions 17 and 18 of the M4, and is clearly sign posted. From junction 17 follow the A350 and then the B4039, on which it is situated. Alternatively from junction 18 take the A46 towards Stroud, then the B4040 which joins the B4039.

Facilities
Food is served all day at the circuit cafe and toilet facilities are located in this building. Sheltered spectator areas are also available in the cafe.

Requirements
The only requirements are that all drivers, passengers and spectators sign our indemnity and that anyone going out onto the circuit wears a helmet. All drivers must attend a safety briefing at 08:30 in the circuit cafe. For any latecomers the next briefing will be held at 10:30. Helmets are available to hire at £10 per day and if you haven't already specified one when booking you are advised to do so to ensure we bring enough along.

Regardless of weather conditions anybody that goes out on track must have covered arms and legs.

No car will be allowed on track running slick tyres without adequate roll over protection.

2nd Drivers and Passengers
We are unique in not charging for passengers or 2nd Drivers. Spectators are of course welcome as well. Children under 16 years must be accompanied at all times by an adult but will not be allowed onto the track without our prior consent.

Instruction
Tuition is available all day. The cost is £20 per session and is strongly recommended for beginners and newcomers to the venue. Instruction can be booked via the website booking system or can be arranged on the day.

Photography
There will be a photographer taking pictures all day. These will be uploaded to your BookaTrack.com account after the event and high resolution images can be purchased.

Finally, if you have not yet paid in full please do so immediately to avoid risking losing your place. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us either by e-mail, fax or phone.

A great day tracking was had by all. For once the weather was brilliant. Cold but sunny. VR4's making up the biggest single make collection.

The track was very greasy on the first session with Simon being overtaken by everyone. By the second session the racing line was starting to dry out. I was fortunate to get a PAX lap with Simon on this one - bags more grip this time.

Another brilliant day out with a great bunch of peeps. Thanks to everyone, in particular Nutter John, Jimbo( it was interesting to see the difference between a manual and tip "box")and Simon in the AWSOME Skyline for PAX laps.

I'm sure the rest will be along later when the headaches subside, to tell more

Nutter_John
03-12-2006, 10:34 AM
Yep it was a great day , the company was good ( wish i could say the same for the food - cold mushrooms are not on the menu ) .

Must admit I do like Combe as a circuit and will be back next year to trash the pants of the car again

now the hard bit , when is the next track session did someone say January :D

Kieran
03-12-2006, 10:38 AM
Glad to see you had a great time! So Malc, in your opinion, what are the differences between the manual and the tip, and which works better on track?

Nutter_John
03-12-2006, 10:40 AM
I would say Auto given the longer legs of the drive , but I'd still keep my manual for the track as I much preffer the engine breaking

Yeah, a great time was had by all. I've only just got out of bed though as I had a couple of drinks and we didn't get home until 1.30am as the bl**dy M4 was closed

I managed to get a few pax laps myself. Two with Pete, one with John and one with Jimbo (cheers guys :2thumbsup ) . As said by others it was quite greasy in the morning but had dried out nicely later in the day.

Seeing Heath "schmoking" the tyres in the Supra was a bit of shock

Paul's GTiR was very quick on track. Unfortunately, it decided to blow it's turbo and chew the alternator belt which was real shame.

Meal was ok. The main course was nice but as said by John the frozen garlic mushrooms didn't go down too well !

What can I say - yet another fantastic weekend - thanks a million to everyone who joined in :2thumbsup Shame about the awful meal last night, but it didn't dampen our spirits and we seemed to get half our drinks free!!

I didn't get many pics as I actually took to the track as a passenger for the first time since RT2!! Thanks Jimbo and Simon for the loan of your front seats - that Skyline is just incredible - I was heard to say many times last night that it was the best 15 minutes of my life - much to Heath's disgust

I think Simon was trying to scare me, but it was just awesome, drifting on almost every corner and even taking to the grass briefly :iloveyou:

After the first two sessions, Heath abandoned the leggie for the Supra and drove it for the rest of the day. Derek and Pete have some excellent footage of the tyre smoking incident :pimp2:

As for the next one - who knows when or where but the HJM's have finished for 2006 - here's to 2007 :2thumbsup

Glad to see you had a great time! So Malc, in your opinion, what are the differences between the manual and the tip, and which works better on track?

As John said the tip has longer "legs" enabling you to carry a bit more speed thru the corners. Having said that the manual gives a feeling of more control
with engine braking etc. With higher final ratio I would prefer manual. Also, as I'm sure John will reiterate AYC is VERY useful when it's greasy. I was with him on the first session, he was getting massive understeer with LSD only. I was with him later in the day on a dry track and it had plenty grip then with very stable cornering.

For fun though, try Simon with 4 wheel drive switched off, side ways out of Quarry FANTASTIC:thumbsup:

Another awesome weekend. Thanks a million to everyone who came and made it yet another special event in the CVR4 history books.

A lot has already been mentioned, but certainly Heath's "smoking" is one that will remain in the memory, as will the moment I left it a little late overtaking an Elise into Camp and Wayne and I held on hoping the tyres would grip enough for me to make it around......and yes I was slapped by the marshalls at the end. They said they were going to black flag me but I was too close to Heath for them to be able too....../lol !

Jane - yet again the pix are brillant - thank you and :iloveyou: :iloveyou: :iloveyou:

My coolant issue may be resolved with the flush......did have some of it coming out of the expansion tank cap and overflow pipe.....but this morning had loss less than an inch so seems ok. Had a moment though over Avon Rise in the last session. I braked where I nornally do, and the car violently moved left then right, but managed to correct it before Quarry claimed another victim. Andy was with me, and initially thought I had braked too early on the rise, but looked down to see the dreaded ABS and red AYC lights were on......opps ! This is what happened before on the way to RT3.......and was expensive ! Thankfully that seems to have cleared now since I got back.

Thanks also to the CVR4 Track Instructor......Mr Tew, for sitting in the suicide seat with Shaz for a session........rather him than me......./lol

Overall then, a fabulous weekend, great track action and brilliant company.

Wasn't there for most of the action - M40 was shut so it took an extra 2 hours to get there. Did get a pax ride with Pete - thanks mate - but were all called off early as one of the marshalls thought a car was losing oil. Turned out it wasn't but too late. Did see Heath's new tactic of smoking out everything behind him, and the smell of rubber!!!
All in all another great weekend with awesome company - thanks to all:2thumbsup

That's the only thing that bothers me about 'mixed' trackdays - If I was being deliberatlely obstructed by something, I would start to get annoyed by it! /grr

Did you get by eventually, or did he roadblock your session?

IIRC he was in the way for a couple of laps, but I followed track etiquette and did not try to force my way passed him until he indicated to allow me by, but admit by then I had said a few expletives. There were a couple of Elise's that also seemed to think they needed to be in front of us......but they duly learn't otherwise too

What another great weekend :2thumbsup had great fun on track battling with Heath in the Supra /notworthy and also Simon toying with me in the Skyline :rolleyes3

The end of the day for me was when the Pulsar decided to chew it's alternator belt after quarry so I decided to come into to the pits.
As myself and Derek pulled up the clouds of smoke suggested that I had blown the turbo /pan
Luckily had my support vehicle and Mr AA kindly took the car home

Thanks everyone for the ever-brilliant company on the latest excellent track weekend. I'm not sure that I have ever enjoyed driving Combe as much as this - the usual problems with car didn't present themselves and really inspired me to push harder than I think I've ever pushed it before - although it does look like we have a new problem now. Might be time to retire the VR4 from trackdays and get something hardcore - I need to keep Heath, Simon and Paul honest ;) :pimp2:

Just had a look at some of the bullet cam footage and unfortunately it's not up to it's normal standard. I had connection issues throughout the day, meaning some parts were not recorded properly, and with the sun so low there is a fair bit of bleed in places.......so it's gonna take a little more time to edit this time, so please bear with me as I away until Weds, and I will try to make the best of a bad job.

Well, what can I say a truly fabulous way to finish the year :2thumbsup Thanks boys and girls for making it such a fun weekend :iloveyou:

Don't think I've laughed so much in a car.

True to form (with fellow giggler Paul in the suicide seat  ), I reaquainted myself with the grass at Combe a couple of times - a first in the Supra I hasten to add ! That's what happens when you forget to turn the traction control off and start fighting it - well that's my excuse

Ok, so now the smoking incident - it was the tyres !!!

I think I got carried away with practicing my power slides out of the corners as derek's video will show :2thumbsup

What it doesn't show is the massive tank slapper which occured immediately afterwards :p The car shot off to the right - I says to Jimbo "Oh Sh1t" and then we laugh our socks off as soon as I recover it snaking down the road - possibly the most entertaining exiting of a corner I have ever done.

Thankfully this last session was ended early, otherwise I may have been tempted to repeat it

What I can't understand is why more Supras aren't tracked - the car was simply awesome/pan

I will definitely be using it more on track in 2007!!!!

No the Leggie is still going to be used (VR4's were designed for and like abuse :2thumbsup ), especially for the Ring as the weather can be variable and fitting all that luggage, etc would be a squeeze in the Supra
