I really hope this is as funny written down, because I very nearly wet myself when I heard it. (The first part's funny, the second just interesting). And I swear to god this is true...

A friend of my colleague went to New York with her daughter for the weekend, and they stayed in a really posh hotel. Anyway, on the first day they went to use the lift, and when the door opened there were 3 black men already inside. One man was what you might call normal proportions, but he was flanked by two really well built men who they assumed were bouncers or something.

They got in the lift, and suddenly heard "Hit the Floor!".

So both mother and daughter threw themselves to the ground double quick, thinking they were about to be mugged by gangsters or something.

This was greeted by a lot of laughter, and the man in the middle said, no I meant for you hit the elevator button. He helped them to their feet, and apologised for scaring them, but said it was quite possibly the funniest thing he'd ever seen. Then he asked where they were from etc, and they got chatting for a bit. I don't know why, but when he heard they were from the UK he seemed to think it all made sense??

Despite being the most embarrassed they'd ever been, mother an daughter went on to have a great weekend.

On the morning of their departure, they went to the hotel front desk to pay their bill. They were told that there was nothing to pay on the account. They queried it, and told the staff member that they had not yet paid anything of their bill. The account was double checked, and they were told that the whole bill had been paid.

Obviously, the next question was "Well, who paid it?"

The answer - Eddie Murphy.

It was a friend of a friend. Her name's Mavis which maybe suggests she didn't grow up with Eddie Murphy films (huge assumption I know, and I apologise). Presumably her daughter should have recognised him though.

Short answer - I've no idea!

Kieran showed me the 'evidence' this morning. I'm absolutely gutted. It was such a good story, and I fell for it hook line and sinker. Just gullible I guess.

Anyhow, being as I was so disappointed, I thought I would do the honourable thing and share the wealth  . So I told my colleague that it was made up, and showed her the evidence that you all provided. She was absolutely shocked, and then said she would be paying her friend a little visit. Not happy! I reckon she's told that story to about everyone she knows, and now she's got to tell everyone it was not real. Ooops!

Was a really good story though, and it did give me the best laugh I've had in ages.

One question though - is there ANYTHING that's ever been put on the internet that you lot don't know about?? :scholar:

Apparently there's an incredible amount of porn - but I've never seen it.
