From the number plates it must have been in 2004 or later, it's not that long ago. 'arz229' looks like an NZ new one, facelifts were very rare back then, and with that numberplate it would have been registered at the start of 2002.

We see tons here though, I saw about 4 or 5 VR-4's yesterday and probably 30+ normal Galants and Legnums.

they started off at AA1111 in the 50's or something, and worked their way to ZZ9999 by 2001. Since then we've changed to AAA111.

Our Civic which was registered in 1993 was SF5505, our 626, a 1998 car is WY7853. My first car bought in 2000 was ZF7125, my legnums have been BST770 (end of 03) CQW761 (middle of 05) and DCK882 (end of 05).

ah!... alrighty.. now i see it, suppose as times gone by, and the population grows, its harder to pinpoint the exact year the car was registered, cos its going to fast?

sort of, but the bigger problem is that when a car is reregistered it gets given a current plate, IE the WY7853 plate on the mazda could be changed to DNxxxx or whatever we are up to now for a couple of hundred dollars, so older number plates get rarer quite quickly, probably 70% of cars out there now have a AAA111 style number plate because of this.

i think its less than $20 to get a new set of plates issued... you have to hand in your old ones though. Usually this happens if one of them is lost or damaged.

On my motorbike, my plate snapped (had a crack in it that widened at high speed... haha) and I got another plate issued for $8 :)

Its only about $12 to get a new plate if you are taking a personalised plate off a car and 25 cents to put one on a car... :inquisiti

In the UK if you want to transfer a number plate from one vehicle to another it costs £80.... whats that, about 220 NZ Dollars??

yeah and it also depends. car couuld have been de-registered at i dont know?CCD532 then re-registered at DC6545 or whatever, hard to tell. but u can roughly tell by lookin at the car when it was built.

They are so common over here, it isn't hard to find one at all. Yesterday I was at an intersection in the white VR-4, there was another one in the other lane two cars ahead, in meister blue, and a white one coming the other way. 2 minutes later I saw a trigger mauve one.

Thats kinda what i like about the UK... you can drive 200 miles and never see one. but on the other hand, would been quite cool to see a few more.
