its the battery back up system on the alarm, was the alarm in disarm mode or read the manual for the alarm

I disarmed the alarm as I would when getting in the car to drive it. There is a small module to plug into a hole in the dash but thats if the battery runs out on the key fob or so the book says.

reconnect the battery and dis arm the alarm and then quickly disconnect the battery, the alarm automatically arms the imobiliser after 30m seconds or so

Will try that its a pain in the arse, thought I was gonna get tackled for attempted theft.

You have an Elite 3 Cobra alarm.

To disconnect the battery without the alarm sounding you must set the system to 'Valet Mode' INSERT INTO post VALUES (Passive arm override).
This serves to switch off the passive immobilisation while the vehicle is in for service or manintenance:-

1. With the system disarmed, switch on the ignition.

2. Press button 'A' on the radio key, The dashboard LED will flash and the siren will buzz. The passive immobilisation is now excluded.

In this mode, each time the ignition is switched off the siren will buzz siz times and the indicators will flash six times to remind you the system is in valet mode. The dashboard LED will also flash all the time the ignition is ON.

The passive immobilisation will be reinstated the next time a radio key is used.

:)
Learnt this after reading the manual in a panic! after removing the battery once.:nono:

Sorry my mistake, I will have a go at this at the weekend.

Reason I am doing this is when I bought the car some 6 weeks ago I had to put £10 worth of 95 ron unleaded in to get me home. Since then I have been using Optimax, I was just trying to find out whether I am in safe mode or the engine has recovered.

Cheers

From my experiance it won't recover on its own.
And using 95ron will most definetely cause my ECU to go into safe mode.
Resetting the ECU on a regular basis is quite a good idea anyway if you own a Tiptronic automatic version, as removing the power also resets what the tiptronic has learnt and gives you fast acceleration on its own unless you rag the car everywhere anyway.

Is there a fuse that can be pulled to reset the ECU? If I disconnect the battery for any length of time the radio looses all presets, inc. the graphic settings etc. Would be a lot less hassle if there was.

suppose u could unplug the ecu directly

Is that easy?

Not sure I have worked out where it is. I think I may remember someone saying it is under the dash somewhere?

Hmm.. good idea, let me see, according to the fuse cover... just as I thought.. it's erm.. one of them. :D

How about 13? A picture of an engine? Stand a chance?

/Reaches for japanese Legnum book in vainly hopeful attempt to work it out!

The ECU and tiptronic will be on seperate fuses so you will gain one loss, unless you pull both fuses, obviously.
I lose the clock time and the time on the radio but the stations are still kept, fuses would be the best idea really.

It appears to be 'engine control'.

So this may be it!

Only 20A. seems a little low, I was thinking perhaps 20 and 21?

I was referring to fuse no. 13. You beat me on the submit button, Zedy!

21 is the alternator. Not sure about 20.

dont think removeing the fuse would work it may have twin memory inputs :Ponder:

Any ideas for the gearbox memory?

or perhaps it would be better yo install a reset switch on dash :D

Sounds like the perfect time to install a big red START button as well! :D

I agree with Mo here, I believe you will have to disconnect the battery to make sure it resets. Also bear in mind someone on here had a Mitsy mechanic tell them to disconnect the battery for 30secs so if it was just the fuse he would have said right ?

What is fuse 20 ? Says in manual Fuse INSERT INTO post VALUES (+B) - 60A ?
