Just recently saw this ad on autotrader..........

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CARS_popup.asp?searchform=&modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&photo=1&state=none&sort=&make=MITSUBISHI&min_pr=75&source=0&model=GALANT&max_pr=&agerange=0&mileage=0&miles=1500&trim=Sport&keywords=&postcode=IG11+7QF&ukcarsearch_full.x=38&ukcarsearch_full.y=7&start=8&distance=7&adcategory=CARS&channel=CARS&id=200647259075279

Now there is a big big mis-description (false description) somewhere on that advert. Does anyone know what it is? (I have spotted it and I just thought I'd see which Mitsui expert here can spot it) :)

It's not a Sport ?

Correct. :)

It is a Elegance model. Clues:

1. On the back of the car it says "V6-24", a 2.5 V6 sport model would NEVER have that written on it. The Elegance does. The Sport model would say 'Sport' or 'V6 Sport'.

2. Leather seats. Sport models generally don't come with leather seats but it was an option and not many people have this.

3. A quick check on RAC website using the sellers registration number plate reveals that the car is indeed an Elegance model :)

Well done to Spirit and N131p :)

Boy there are so many sellers out there that are guilty of mis-selling although its not always easy to know

I was thinking along those lines Anthony.... it's got the bumper, it's got the wheels. The GLS and V6-24 specs DID continue alongside the elegance and equippe sport models, with the non-sport post facelift bumper, and both had the 15" wheels previously found on the pre-facelift V6, but with a polished finish on the outer edge of the spokes.

They're very rare, but I'd like a 2002/2003 V6-24 with 15"s, leather, EL dash, manual estate. I saw one in autotrader once.

If i remember correctly around 2001 / 2002 the Sport was discontinued and the elegance / equippe etc continued.
There is no difference mechanically between V6 Sports and V6-24s. The V6-24s just had a few more toys. Cruise control, traction control etc. Some were standard, other factory extras.
TBH The sport in many respects was the base model with the VR4 bodykit.

When Sports were first released they were one of the first models (if not THE first) with the facelift styling in 2000 in the UK. Older pre-facelift V6-24s were still sold (probably from dealer stock, explaining why there are some W and X reg pre-facelifts out there). As far as i can recall, the only difference in spec terms was that Sports came with 17" Alloys as standard, everything else came with 15" rims. Once the other model caught up with the facelift styling, the Sports were replaced by them.

Also the Elegance comes with just 158bhp and Sport has 161bhp.

I think thats an old wives tale TBH. All 2.5 V6s kick out 161bhp, in normal form anyway.

been posted before..... but, sports & eleagance are the same car - it was a badge engineering excercise from mitsi and they were ditching the traditional GLS, GLX etc type model names for new fangled trendy names like Classic, Equippe and Eleagance.
I think GLX = Classic, GLS = Equippe but V6-24 was replaced by Sport / Eleagance although they were sold in tandem (V6-24 available until 2001) with different specs.

V6-24s had a different (higher spec to sports / eleagance - cruise, wood, electric leather etc - leather on sports/eleagances was non leccy)

I had an ex-demo 2002 Sport which had sport badges, but V5 doc said "Eleagance" this is normal for 2002 onward cars until "Eleagance" badges were supplied to Mitsi Cirencester!!
