:curtain: I have heard amatech engine restorer can be used on gearboxes to reduce whine :curtain:

"5. You can treat a manual gearbox or conventional differential, each with half a 250ml can or couple of teaspoons of RESTORE, and get rid of the whine (NOT automatics or limited slip diffs, please as the clutch packs will slip). "

..... on a serious note is yours a manual or auto - may help with the more mechanically mided people on here to give advice...

i'm assuming its a manual

Is the car a manual? How many miles has it done?

manual---107k on clock....wont touch a gearbox it goes to garage for gearbox, mainly for the fact that most people hate the smell of gearbox oil, well it almost makes me pass out. so dont touch it lol

its only in first and second gear ive noticed, need to find out the problem asap as im going to brugge in 2 weeks, and dont perticulary want to be stuck knowing my luck on a narrow bridge with the use of like reverse 3rd and 5th gear and a wedged galant lol
as usual all help is appreciated

At 100k+ the oil in there is likely to be chopped to bits. Change it to a full synthetic GL4 75w-90. I sell Amsoil which is the best but if you think I am just pushing the stuff then buy Motul or get something from Tweeks. If you are lucky the whine might even go completely Please Please Please don't use cans of expensive swarf.
Good luck

would love to use amsoil but my budget just doesnt stretch to that price, maybe for christmas lol.... will see if i can stretch to amsoil, but going on holiday in 2 weeks so kinda saving if my golf sells, then it will be having the full amsoil treatment

it is only about 4 litres or so for the manual box isn't it? Come on you know you want to use the best :)

yep did mine in the weekend and we measured waht went in,
2.7-2.8L of GL4

do not use a gl5/6 is is not a better/replacment oil,
its not good for the gearbox
