On my now bi-monthly trip to cable tie my guard liners back in place, i noticed there was a bit of black oily crap on the lower ball joints(or what i am assuming must be the ball joint?), both sides in the same place.

Does someone who knows what they should look like want to tell me if they need replacing??? And how urgent it would be... ...and ideally pay to fix it:scholar:

Most everything under there has some form of oil on it, so i'm hoping they can wait, but i need a WOF tomorrow:5shots:

if you grab the wheel at the top and bottom and try to rock it...
if it move and you can see play in the joint (it will move in and out)...
it will need replacing... dont worry bout it till theres play in the joint.

Cool, i definately couldnt move it at all, its just the grease that was worrying me, i'll see what they say tomorrow:scholar:

Might be worth cleaning the grease off - they may assume that the joint is leaking, and fail it anyway.

Get some degreaser in there.

Bern's probably right, just don't make it look too clean and shiney!

/haz Okay cheers guys, one semi clean but not too clean up job coming up:2thumbsup

I take it this is something that will keep leaking, and eventually crap out, what should i keep an eye on, because i really dont fancy being in the car if it fails:thinking: (bluey.../help )

Will there be play in the steering or something? I'll definately swap them at some point, but first i need a job:scholar:

Trademe special:2thumbsup Iv been quite happy with it so far, could have used a stronger spring for keeping a steady idle, but doesn't seem to leak under load, and the twin trumpets can't be beat:pimp2:
