Airfield Day

We keep meaning to get one organised, so the other day I posted a thread on the MLR as they have done a few. Now had an email from a guy who helps organise them for the SIDC. He has promised to keep in touch when they have a list of potential events for 2007, so will pass that on when he does.

In the meantime.....let's discuss this some more......who else is up for some fun ?

Does anyone else know of somewhere to go ? The adverts I see on the net are expensive, and basically a track day on an airfield......we're talking £80+ each.

What I was hoping we could arrange is a large open tarmaced area, safe from walls/barriers etc. Then set up some cones or whatever and have some fun getting used to back ends out, etc. Basically, something costing us £30-£40 each, so more people would be tempted to come along.

Did 1 airfield day a few years ago - surfaces can be much more abrasive and more grit around at some of them

Place I did was supposed to be obstacle-free what with all that grass around the runways BUT...

one car found a drain or to be precise a coverless drain and front wheel went down and supension ripped off

I guess they can be fun places if you are ready for what may be more 'wear and tear' in form of tyres and paint chips

With them being flat, featureless and track layout done with cones I find them less enjoyable BUT they are cheaper and can get more people together to have fun with the car
