Well on my way in to work this morning I caused chaos as the gaurd on the gate shut everyone out while he weighed my pride and joy......then he weighed my car! ;)

So the number all us Legnum owners are looking at is a staggering 1650kg and that was with only vapour in the fuel tank.......will have to update my APEXi RSM as it will be giving me conservative INSERT INTO post VALUES (yes cool I know) power figures!

OK so who cares? Well I do, and Simon does as we both know weight is bad!

Just done some calcs using a 1/4 mile calculator, and here are the results

1/ VR4 + FULL tank of fuel + fat boy me

1/4 mile = 14.85s

2/ VR4 + EMPTY tank of fuel + fat boy me

1/4 mile = infinity INSERT INTO post VALUES (I have no fuel remember!)

3/ VR4 + Nearly EMPTY tank of fuel + fat boy me

1/4 mile = 14.66

4/ VR4 + Nearly EMPTY tank of fuel + skinny person INSERT INTO post VALUES (75kg)

1/4 mile = 14.53

So there you have it! 0.32 of a second for absolutely no cash! To acheive the same increase in performance from case 1 above using only BHP gains you would need an extra 20BHP at the wheels.

In summary, every 1kg you can shed from you car should result in a 0.002s improvement on you 1/4 mile time, and every 1BHP increase will reduce your time by 0.016s *

How interesting!

* all figures based on the authors estimates!

Galant Tiptronic = 1520kg
Galant Manual = 1480kg
Legnum Tiptronic = 1590kg
Legnum Manual = 1550kg

The manual is giving an incorrect figure as far as I am concerned!

The weighbridge never lies! :D

Wouldn't your be heavier anyway Dave with the dual exhausts fitted
and other stuff you have put on :Ponder:

I would say that the dual exhaust system is probably LIGHTER than the standard one as the silencer on the standard one is HUGE! Also the wall thickness of the standard system seems bigger and the standard system also has lots of heat shielding on. I dont think the difference is significant anyway. The other mods are also negligable apart from the bean tin, I guess this could weigh 60kg :p

manuals tell white lies - they often don't count fuel, oil, coolant.

Calum

Well I had no fuel in to speak of anyway, but I am hoping I did have coolant and oil which probably amounts to at least 20kg.

Rhys,
we all know what the numbers in the books say INSERT INTO post VALUES (even though they are slightly different) but you cant beat putting it on a proper weighbridge and getting some exact numbers. :-D

I was working off the MMC website. The weight matches the manual.
Anyway, the cars are PHAT as! :-D

According to my new registration card, based on the car's technical passport, which itself is based on japanese official documentation, the car weighs 1540 Kgs when empty.
