With David Beckham having negotiated another 'half decent' deal some interesting facts are coming to light.

1] Just look how far ahead Tiger is ........ impressive.

2] Pleased to see that Mohammed Ali is earning a decent crust.

3] Will Posh n' Becks get on the Hollywood 'A' List?

Top earners in sport:
(Compiled by US magazine Forbes in July last year, for previous 12 months)
1 Tiger Woods (golf) £46,322,534
2 Michael Schumacher (motor racing) £29,861,531
3 Muhammad Ali (boxing) £28,315,783
4 Phil Mickelson (golf) £24,191,350
5 Michael Jordan (basketball) £16,470,999
6 Kobe Bryant (basketball) £15,955,024
7 Shaquille O'Neal (basketball) £15,955,023 = Valentino Rossi (motorcycling) £15,955,023
9 Alex Rodriguez (baseball) £14,925,999
10 David Beckham (football) £13,896,154

How Beckham's wages break down:
£128 million over five years
£25.6m every year
£492,307.69 every week
£2930.40 every hour
£48.84 every minute
81p every second

Isn't Beckham the highest paid sports person in the world, whereas the others are the highest earning sports people of the world.

He'd have to fire his agent if he got a deal based on how many goals he scores...especially when playing for the England team!

I take it that list is purely income from sport and not endorsements or businesses.

Gone are the days when boxers dominated the money earner lists. What happened to boxing?

Snippet of the BBC

An annual salary of $10m

His existing sponsorship contracts with his four sponsors - Motorola, Pepsi, Gillette and Volkswagen - are estimated to be worth $25m

His merchandising shirt sales will bring in $10m

His share of the club profits: $10m That adds up to $55m. Multiply it by five and you get $275m.

Hence the bold claim made by his commercial agent Simon Fuller of 19 Entertainment, who holds the rights for the Beckham brand.
He told me. "I have long dreamt of being responsible for the biggest sporting deal. With the help of David Beckham and his unique sporting talents I have helped achieve my aim."
Beckham may no longer dream of playing for England.
He may end his career in the relative soccer backwaters of the United States.

1. I find it amazing that after earning eight figure sums three of them are within $1 of each other. What are the chances of Rossi and O'Neal earning identical sums down to the last digit?

2. Surprised at how many North American sportsmen are amongst those 10 - I would have thought with a starting grid of upto 22(?) competing drivers F1 would ensured a more diverse number of nations represented.

3. Amazing to see Ali in the ten. I imagine many modern boxers will have eclipsed his 'career' earnings, but clearly none have matched his financial judgement.

I reckon once Posh'n'Becks sign up with the Scientoligists they will be Hollywood A-listers no problem.

The breakdown of Becks earnings per minute poses and interesting question if you did the calculation again as £/minutes played. Would he be better value for Milan or Galaxy?

factor this:
- his LA club already has a Beckham academy
- up to mid teens, more american kids play football (soccer) than any other sport)

& it's inevitable that he was going to move the LA, to build the Beckham/Beckham Academy brand in the last couple of playing years of his life.
