Thanks guys :D I'm so excited!!!

There's a few controls that I can't work out what they do, I've circled and numbered them:

1) Is this the dimmer for the dash?

2) I have no idea what this is, something for the air vents perhaps?

3) I'm not sure if this is a trick of the light or if there is a control there?

Also the one to the left of the power mirror controls, that's the switch for the driving/fog lights?

In order then...

1 - Correct.

2 - Correct again - It's the open/close wheel.

3 - No, that's the 'Nardi Torino' badge that's embossed onto the steering wheel.

And yes, that's the front fog lamp switch. It'll even work with no lights on... It auto-turns on the sidelamps.

I take it it's a "Type V". I don't see a traction control off switch on the right under the outside mirror remote control.

bradc

It's a manual, none of them have ASC or TC at all.

Pre-facelift Type-Vs didn't exist!/pan

KiwiTT
23-01-2007, 10:42 PM
Yes they did.

Type S = Tiptronic, optional AYC, ASC, TCL
Type V = Optional Manual

I should know. I have a Type S and was aware of the limitations of the Type V.

from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galant_vr-4)
The Type-V model could be specified with either the existing 5-speed manual or the optional INVECS-II, which was now an advanced self-learning 5-speed semi-auto based on Porsche's Tiptronic transmission, while the Type-S model offered the optional Active Yaw Control (AYC).

Yes they did. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galant_vr-4)

They didn't Richard!

There is NO such thing as a pre-facelift Type-V. It was introduced in 1998.

End of.

KiwiTT

OK - I agree

The pre-facelift VR-4 Standard model was effectively a "Type-V". The Type-S was the higher specced model.

Kieran
23-01-2007, 11:22 PM
Effectively, but on the Pre-facelift side, the 'VR-4' didn't miss out on as much specification as the 'VR-4 Type-S'.

I've just dug out a pre-facelift VR-4/Vr-4 Type-S JDM Brochure.

These are the differences.

'VR-4' was manual only. Type-S was a Tip.

'Type-S' had different wheels (VR-4 spec got the 'BBS' ones) and ASC + TCL.

Both had AYC... Unlike the later Type-V where it was deleted.

I really ought to scan in and OCR this brochure to put an end to the questions about the model types and their options./pan

Sure man :) There's stacks here:

http://home.swiftdsl.com.au/~monstr/newgalant/

No probs asking prices mate :) All up, including buying, shipping, compliance (labour was free), transport from adelaide to sydney, rego and insurance it'll be around $15,000.

Kristian has a free compliance deal going with a workshop at the moment, just check with him about it. They're offered by workshops who want to compliance the vr4 but haven't got the permission to do so...they have to have a test car first, they don't smash it lol...they just do all the meticulous measuring and testing of power/weight ratio etc. The test cars are always the best complied and the best condition...they HAVE to be perfect and free of all rust otherwise they will be sent back to their country of origin.

Test cars take about twice to three times as long as a normal compliance but it's worth it.

TCL and ASC is evil anyway, it just stops you from having fun :)

24-01-2007, 04:36 AM
Hahah I suspected as much ;) I plan on a lot of fun!!!!!

Can anyone direct me to a thread with recommended fluids/filters and maintenance stuff like that?

I will search too...I just thought I'd ask while I was typing. I'm doing this at the front counter at work...it's funny. Customers think I'm working my butt off coz my fingers are going nuts on the keyboard hahahah :D

bradc
24-01-2007, 07:40 AM
Yeah you really don't need the traction control at all, and the stability control basically makes you understeer and lose power. It also kicks in too early.

As far as fluids and things go, there isn't just one thread, but in the members area there are lots of articles about how to change various things and they are well detailed.

Cheers, I found most of the info...I was just being a lazy n00b :D

Kieran

So this means mine has AYC, but no TCL or ASC?

That's right. So you've got a 'purer' model.... No nannying TCL or ASC to spoil any arse-out antics! /rally You see, on the Type-S, TCL is switchable, but I'm sure that ASC (stability control) remains active all the time - which if you're on a track or trying to act about isn't really what you want.

bradc
24-01-2007, 10:21 AM
Yeah the ASC is on all the time, It is particularly annoying at roundabouts and sharp intersections.
