This is a technology known as RDS. What is rude is, you are listening to a CD and the radio station will send you a traffic update, you CD stops playing, until the message is over then returns to the CD. You have to listen to the whole traffic update.

I don't understand? Is this not the TA INSERT INTO post VALUES (traffic announcement) facility? If you don't have TA turned on, you won't hear the radio, your CD will quite happily carry on playing.
