Anyone got one going spare ?

One of mine is split and I think the reason for my uneven pad wear was due to the grease on that sliding bolt becoming contaminated with dust etc.

Just phoned the local Mitsi dealer and the seals are not sold seperately. You have to buy a complete caliper seal kit which comes to £34.53

/Grrr

Anyone got a spare kicking about ? Pretty please .... /toycar

Wayne - I might have some, I'll take a look this weekend - I think I kept a couple spare as my refurbished calipers came with fresh boots.

Nice one Kieran. Thanks.

I will still ask Mo when he calls back as well just in case ...

Still not got the red grease sorted there are some guys selling little pots of the Castrol stuff on eBay but I'm a bit suspicious about buying a pot with a hand written label ...

Wayne this grease is specifically for lubing rubber parts...for all else use either moly or coppaslip grease.....:2thumbsup

Copper slip is your friend for these slider bolts.

Its a common problem that they sieze. the set up is common to a lot of mitsu cars, the FTO Mivec for example is nearly exactly the same. If they stick in there totally you will end up having to drill the calliper to get the buggers out.

If you are stuck for a spare bolt i am sure will have one laying about.

Also, you can find that one of the pistons on the calliper wil stick. You can take them out and clean them and put them back in. If they are stuck it will be obvious though.

EDIT: Sorry- if your bolt will still come out, it will be servicable again if you clean it up with some wet and dry, then, roll up the paper and gently get the crap out of the caliper.

Cheers,

Ben.

It has been seen time and time again that copper slip is perhaps the cause of the problem.......

Ade is right. Copper slip is NOT good for these bolts. Neither is Ceratec.

Thanks but I am going to avoid copper slip for the bolts. I think the reason mine had nearly seized was the use of copper slip. I actually ordered some Castrol Red Rubber Grease from these guys yesterday:

http://www.mgocaccessories.co.uk/acatalog/MGOC_Accessories__Grease_176.html

They specialise in MGs. The grease including VAT and delivery was £8.20.

Now I just need a replacement dust cover which hopefully Kieran is going to sort me out with

Copper slip is your friend for these slider bolts.

As Ade says , this issue plagues those of use with standard brakes - and it's mainly CAUSED by copper slip....

/EDIT: D'oh! Beaten to it - but it's that important, read it again!!:inquisiti

Well you learn something every day! Thats a good, well reasoned post. I never really thought about the copper deposits.

Mitsubishi actually specify a particular greece for the shims, but they just specify general lubricant grease for the sliders. Thats probably why they sieze in the first place then, because it just boils off.

So what is the concensus then on the best base compound/product? The best thing we would have would be something like Renolit red, which is primarily a grease for rubber/plastics but it is highly temperature stable in that it wont actually melt.

Cheers,

Ben.

Not sure about the best base compound ... the other will know but the Castrol stuff that I am getting says this:

Castrol Red Rubber Grease
Special rubber compatible grease for use on hydraulic brake and clutch components where hardening or swelling must be avoided. 500gm.
